Speaking on March 27 in Murmansk during the launching ceremony and meeting with the crew of the Arkhangelsk nuclear submarine, a Yasen-M class submarine equipped with Zircon hypersonic missiles, President Vladimir Putin affirmed that Russia is aware of the role of the navy in national security.

Russia will strive to maintain its status as a naval power by building new surface ships and submarines and improving their performance, he stressed.

According to President Putin, the navy is one of the main guarantees of Russia's national security and global strategic stability, because there is a certain strategic balance between Russia and the United States.

He said that Moscow is planning to build eight more submarines, including five Yansen-M and three Borei-A class. However, the development plan is not limited to this, but also includes surface ships and strategic missile carriers.

“We have made long-term, future-oriented decisions, for decades to come – up to 2050 and beyond,” he declared.

Mr. Putin also said that he had instructed the Russian Finance Ministry to approve the allocation of at least 10 billion rubles annually in the next few years to implement this plan.
