Speaking on March 27 in Murmansk at the launching ceremony and meeting with the crew of the nuclear submarine Arkhangelsk, a Yasen-M class submarine equipped with Zircon hypersonic missiles, President Vladimir Putin affirmed that Russia is aware of the role of the navy in national security.
He emphasized that Russia will strive to maintain its status as a naval power by building new surface ships and submarines and improving their performance.
According to President Putin, the navy is one of the main guarantees of Russia's national security and global strategic stability, because there is a certain strategic balance between Russia and the United States.
He stated that Moscow is planning to build eight more submarines, including five Yansen-M class and three Borei-A class. However, the development plan is not limited to these submarines but also includes surface vessels and strategic missile carriers.
"We have made long-term, future-oriented decisions for decades to come – up to 2050 and beyond," he stated.
Putin also stated that he had instructed the Russian Finance Ministry to approve the allocation of at least 10 billion rubles annually for the next few years to implement this plan.
