Two specialized schools in Ho Chi Minh City enroll 10th graders nationwide. How are scores calculated?

According to the enrollment plan for the 2025-2026 school year just approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia High Schools for the Gifted will enroll students nationwide. This is a new point in the enrollment of 10th grade students for the gifted schools this year.

Accordingly, the admission requirements for grade 10 of Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia High Schools for the Gifted include:

• Students graduating from secondary school in the 2024-2025 school year within the prescribed age.
• The results of training and learning assessment for the whole school year of grades 6, 7, 8 must be fair or better, and grade 9 must be good.

Candidates will take 4 essay exams on June 6-7, including 3 non-specialized exams including math, literature (120 minutes/subject), foreign language - Foreign language 1 being studied at school (90 minutes) and 1 specialized exam according to the registered subject (150 minutes).

The test score is the sum of the component scores of each question in the test. The test score is calculated on a 10-point scale, with decimal points up to 0.25.

Exam score coefficient: Non-major exam scores are coefficient 1 and specialized exam scores are coefficient 2.

Admission score to specialized classes is the sum of literature score + foreign language score + math score + (specialized subject score x 2).

Admission principles: Only consider candidates who are eligible to take the entrance exam, have taken all required exams, have not violated exam regulations during the entrance exam, and have a score greater than 2 points in all exams.

The admission method will be based on the regulations on admission scores to specialized classes, from high to low to recruit enough quotas assigned for each specialized subject.

Students who register have 2 priority wishes to enter the 10th grade of the 2 above schools. Arrange in order of priority from highest to lowest (wish 1, 2), if admitted to a wish, they must study in that wish, cannot change wishes.

Depending on the actual application situation at specialized high schools, the Department of Education and Training will consider and decide on organizing additional specialized entrance exams after the end of the 10th grade school year.

According to regulations of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, if they do not pass the entrance exam or do not apply to specialized high schools, students graduating from junior high school in the 2024-2025 school year in Ho Chi Minh City can still participate in the entrance exam to grade 10 according to their 3 wishes to enter public high schools.
