On the evening of May 4, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health Tang Chi Thuong said that more than 50 doctors (morning) and more than 30 people (evening) were on duty at Thanh Tam Pagoda, Binh Chanh District, for the past two days to support emergency care for patients. This is where the relics of Buddha Shakyamuni - a national treasure of India - are enshrined, attracting thousands of people from all over to worship.
This activity is part of the United Nations Vesak 2025, taking place in Ho Chi Minh City from May 6 to 8. The Buddha's relics will be enshrined at Thanh Tam Pagoda until noon on May 8, then brought to Ba Den Mountain National Tourist Area (Tay Ninh), Quan Su Pagoda (Hanoi), and Tam Chuc Pagoda (Ha Nam) for people to worship.
According to Mr. Thuong, the crowd density at the waiting rooms was very high, people lined up in long lines under hot weather that sometimes reached 34 - 35 degrees Celsius, leading to many cases of heatstroke and heatstroke. During the activities, the health sector continued to deploy regular forces, with two fixed medical rooms right at the pagoda.
In addition, two field medical tents and 10 ambulances are always on standby, fully equipped with necessary emergency equipment, including cooling equipment to prevent heatstroke, supported by the Military Medical Department. When someone needs first aid, volunteers will approach, use stretchers or wheelchairs to move the patient to the medical tent for treatment by doctors. If necessary, the 115 force will mobilize additional support teams and two-wheeled ambulances.
Hospitals near the pagoda such as Binh Chanh, Trung Vuong, Binh Dan, Nguyen Trai, Orthopedics, District 11, Trieu An, Gia An 115, City International... provide professional support to the on-call teams and receive serious cases.
To ensure health while waiting to pay homage to the Buddha's relics, the Department of Health recommends that people bring hats, sun umbrellas, drinking water, and snacks. People with chronic diseases should take medication as prescribed.
Do not jostle or push during the ceremony to avoid falling or injury. If you feel tired or dizzy, immediately inform your companion, find a cool place to rest and contact the nearest volunteer or medical tent for timely support.
