Taking advantage of the difficult circumstances in Ha Tinh that need help posted on social networks and appealing to the community's compassion, some bad guys have "steered" the charity to another account number in order to appropriate the donation money...

Recently, when a relative in difficult circumstances unfortunately met with an accident, Ms. HQ in Thach Ha posted information, pictures, personal account number and hoped to receive help and sharing from the community.

A new facebook account was created impersonating Ms. HQ's facebook and Ms. HQ's warning after discovering the incident.

However, just after nearly 1 day of Ms. HQ posting the information, someone used Ms. HQ's name and image to create another Facebook account and comment on the post, the posts sharing the situation with the content calling for support but the "destination" was a number of other accounts.

The subject provided information: "Currently, the above account number is having an error. Donors can help transfer directly to the recipient via account number 050135750384 SACOMBANK . VY BAO CHAU".

It is worth mentioning that at that time, the victim's family's bank account had an error and could not transfer money.

Ms. HQ shared: “With a compassionate heart and generosity, willing to share in difficult times, not everyone is alert and has enough information to consider what is fake, so it is easy to be tricked into transferring money to a strange account. I don’t know if anyone has been tricked into transferring money to that strange account, but many relatives know and texted and contacted me to ask specifically.”

As soon as she learned that someone had impersonated her account, Ms. HQ posted a warning to everyone that the account number did not belong to a relative; the HQ account, which had been created just a few minutes ago, was a fake Facebook account used to scam people. After being discovered, the fake account immediately disappeared from the internet.

Unlike Ms. HQ's situation, Mr. H. in Huong Khe district encountered a scammer who called to receive charity money. His 2-month-old child has hemophilia, Mr. H.'s family has received a lot of attention and his phone number and bank account number have been made public for philanthropists to contact and support. However, this is also a loophole for subjects with bad intentions. A stranger claiming to be a philanthropist wanted to transfer a large amount of charity money to support his son, but to receive the money, he had to pay a confirmation fee.

Difficult family circumstances, son seriously ill, but the bad guys did not let Mr. H's family go.

Mr. H. said: “At that time, my family was poor, the subject used quite convincing words and urged me to transfer money in a hurry, so I was very confused. Luckily, when I found out about it, I was reminded by an acquaintance so I was quite cautious and did not make the transfer.”

Not only with the above tricks, some people also create social networking pages (Facebook, Zalo...), then post articles, images, create fake content about some difficult circumstances that need help to take advantage of the trust and kindness of kind-hearted people who send money to support. In addition, some individuals post real information about difficult circumstances and then call on people to transfer money to their personal bank accounts to appropriate it.

To avoid being taken advantage of by bad guys to commit fraud, people need to be careful to research and verify information posted calling for charitable support on social networking sites. When detecting or suspecting fraudulent activities or property appropriation, it is necessary to report to the police for timely investigation and handling according to regulations. In addition, philanthropists should seek out funds and charity programs licensed by competent authorities to organize donations to ensure that the support money goes to the right address.
