After just three matches in the 2025-2026 Premier League season, Nottingham Forest have officially sacked manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
According to The Sun , this shocking decision was made after the relationship between the Portuguese strategist and the club owner, Evangelos Marinakis, completely broke down.
In a brief statement, the club said: "Nottingham Forest confirms that, following recent events, Nuno Espirito Santo has been relieved of his duties as head coach today. The club thanks Nuno for his contributions during a very successful era at City Ground, particularly his role in the 2024-2025 season, a season that will forever be remembered in the club's history.”
The main reason for the dismissal is believed to be an irreconcilable conflict with owner Marinakis. Nuno himself publicly admitted last month that his relationship with the owner had changed and was no longer good.
In a press conference, he said: "Our relationship has changed. It's no longer close... That's not good. Everyone at the club should stick together, but that's not the reality."
The rift is believed to also stem from the appointment of former Arsenal technical director Edu as the club's global football director in the summer. The 0-3 home defeat to West Ham just before the international break seemed to be the final straw.
Significantly, the decision to sack him came just months after Nuno signed a new three-year contract set to expire in June 2025. Last season, he had an extremely successful season, leading Forest to a seventh-place finish and qualifying for European competition for the first time since 1996.
Nottingham Forest's management is currently looking for a replacement. Potential candidates mentioned include manager Brendan Rodgers, along with Ange Postecoglou and Jose Mourinho.
