What did Prince Harry's reunion with King Charles after 19 months apart reveal?

After 19 months of near-absence, Prince Harry had his first meeting with King Charles while on a series of visits and charity work.

According to CNN, Harry was seen driving through Clarence House in a black Range Rover at around 5:20 pm (UK time) yesterday and leaving less than an hour later. According to royal sources, King Charles is still undergoing cancer treatment at his Balmoral estate in Scotland and returned to the UK capital yesterday afternoon to attend to some royal duties.

The last time Charles and Harry spent time together was in February 2024, when the Duke rushed back to England after the King unexpectedly received a cancer diagnosis. Harry, who is fifth in line to the throne, has not seen his father since.

While it's too early to say whether a full reconciliation has been achieved, there have been signs in recent months suggesting a potential rapprochement between them. In July, senior aides from both sides were seen meeting in London – a move interpreted as an initial reopening of channels of communication.

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Harry and his wife Meghan Markle accused a member of the royal family of expressing concerns about the skin color of their firstborn son, Prince Archie.

Meanwhile, in his memoir Spare , Harry revealed many shocking truths, including that his brother, Prince William, physically assaulted him during an argument about Meghan.

In May, Harry revealed a little about his current family situation, saying: "Some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book... They will never forgive me for many things. But I really want to reconcile with my family. There's no reason to keep fighting anymore."

However, there are still no signs that the good relationship between Harry and William has been restored. Both brothers have been busy with a series of events over the past few days.

According to the British news agency PA Media, after meeting his father, the Duke of Sussex appeared relaxed as he entered another event and answered a reporter's question about his father: "Yes, he's well, thank you."
