On the evening of October 23, the management company of HIEUTHUHAI (real name Tran Minh Hieu) posted a notice about information related to the male rapper and the song Trinh. The source of the incident came from the fact that on social networks, a lot of information was posted claiming that the song Trinh composed and performed by HIEUTHUHAI had offensive content or promoted social evils, related to the lyrics "Or I have to stop making love songs, switch to making Mai Thuy music to play for those little boys to listen to?".

HIEUTHUHAI speaks up

According to the company, the song Trinh was composed, performed and released by HIEUTHUHAI in September 2024 in the context that many rap music listeners thought that HIEUTHUHAI's songs "lost their essence", "weak" and were compared to other rap songs.

The company explained: "The lyrics: 'Or should I stop making love songs and switch to making Mai Thuy songs to play for those naughty boys?', was written to satirize the criticism that rap music must be edgy, even vulgar. When composing the song Trinh , HIEUTHUHAI did not intend to promote or call for illegal acts or promote social evils. In the song, HIEUTHUHAI always tries to convey positive messages about the efforts, attempts, and spirit of family and community of a young artist."

HIEUTHUHAI's management company added that Trinh's song was licensed to be performed on large stages. The company affirmed that the male rapper born in 1999 is always aware of his social responsibility, complies with the law and the code of conduct for people working in the art field.

In response to the mixed opinions on social networks, the company believes that the recent information related to Trinh may not fully reflect the spirit and meaning of the song as well as the artist's wishes during his artistic activities. This unit affirmed: "We and HIEUTHUHAI are ready to coordinate with the authorities to review, exchange, and clarify information related to the song in an objective and good-willed manner."

The lyrics of 'Trinh' are controversial.

HIEUTHUHAI's song Trinh has now garnered over 30 million views on YouTube. Initially, the rap was released to respond to anti-fans who criticized and attacked him. The male rapper attached a warning label, "This song contains strong language and may not be suitable for all audiences. Viewers should consider before listening to have a suitable experience."

Trinh attracted attention with a series of harsh rap verses, responding to doubts surrounding HIEUTHUHAI's ability. The male rapper directly addressed comments that he was "only famous because of his looks" or "successful because of luck", through sentences such as: "Just go online to judge, thinking you're so cool. Looking at my career, my mouth is watering", or "The first time my music was a hit. They said it was because I was lucky (okay). Then I had a hit a second time. If this guy isn't handsome, then get lost".

At the time of its release, HIEUTHUHAI’s song became the center of controversy. Some viewers believed that the lyrics were heavily critical, boastful of achievements, and showed the rapper’s complacency. On the contrary, fans spoke up to defend their idol, saying that the song was an affirmation of the artist’s courage in the face of unfair judgments.
