In his opening speech at the conference, Dr. Tan Sri Dato Johari bin Abdul, Chair of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) 2025 and Speaker of the Malaysian House of Representatives, emphasized that the theme “Securing the Future of ASEAN: Youth Action for Inclusiveness and Sustainability” shows that youth are not only a core force of the future, but are also shaping the present.

AIPA must be a platform to amplify youth voices, link youth aspirations to appropriate policies and ensure no one is left behind.

At the conference, Dato' Indera Mohd Shahar bin Abdullah MP in the Malaysian House of Representatives was officially appointed as the Chairman of YPA. He then chaired the YPA plenary session, taking note of many contributions and recommendations from parliamentarians from ASEAN member countries to enhance youth participation in national and regional policy-making.

The conference has two dialogue sessions with the themes “Promoting Sustainability - Empowering the Voice of ASEAN Youth” and “Building a Generation of Inclusive ASEAN Youth by Leveraging the Digital Age”.

The dialogue session featured parliamentarians and youth representatives who highlighted cross-sectoral approaches to engaging young citizens in governance, innovation and community development.

AIPA Secretary General Siti Rozaimeriyanty Dato Haji Abdul Rahman and Ms. Nurully Rania Jusly, Malaysia's most outstanding delegate at the 4th AIPA General Assembly, delivered special presentations.

At the closing session, MP Dato' Indera Mohd Shahar delivered a speech reinforcing the message that AIPA must be steadfast in creating space for youth to participate meaningfully in shaping the future of ASEAN.

The outcomes of the Conference will contribute to the youth-focused agenda of the 46th AIPA General Assembly, scheduled to be held in Malaysia this September.
