Việt NamViệt Nam22/09/2023

On the morning of September 22, in Nho Quan district, the Center for High-tech Agriculture and Trade Promotion coordinated with the Provincial Center for Agricultural, Forestry and Fisheries Extension (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) to organize a workshop on "Developing the farming of all-male giant freshwater prawns" in Ninh Binh.

In recent years, when aquaculture development with traditional farming objects achieved large output, consumption encountered many difficulties. Faced with this situation, the Center for High-Tech Agriculture and Trade Promotion in collaboration with the Provincial Center for Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Extension proposed the program: "Raising freshwater specialty aquaculture, improving efficiency, contributing to the sustainable development of freshwater aquaculture in the period of 2023 - 2025, with a vision to 2030".

Specifically, in 2023, the Program has implemented nearly 61 hectares of all-male giant freshwater prawn farming, with a variety of farming methods from intensive, semi-intensive, intercropping, and rotation in the whole province. Of which, in Gia Vien district 0.8 hectares, Yen Khanh 6 hectares, Kim Son 2.2 hectares, Nho Quan 2 hectares and Tam Diep city over 50 hectares.

Up to now, depending on the model and the time of sowing (from April to June), different farming methods, the growth and development rate of shrimp also has clear differences.

Through practical inspection, it is shown that green-legged shrimp raised in intercropping or rotation, intercropping with rice with low density, shrimp grow quickly, take advantage of available food in the field, thus reducing food costs.

Giant freshwater prawns are highly adaptable, can be raised with many food sources, have few diseases, low investment costs, and are convenient for farmers with little capital. All-male giant freshwater prawns are freshwater species, so they can be grown in all localities in the province.

Delegates attending the conference discussed and clarified issues related to the technique of raising all-male giant freshwater prawns in Ninh Binh . The focus was on determining suitable farming methods, solutions to reduce costs, improve the efficiency of raising all-male giant freshwater prawns, and suitable farming seasons...

Delegates also proposed solutions for providing breeds and product markets for giant freshwater prawns when expanding farming areas in the coming time...

The program is applied to implement the policy of supporting the development of agricultural and rural economy in Ninh Binh province for the period of 2022 - 2025, in which priority is given to supporting the development of the province's specialty livestock according to Resolution No. 32/2022/NQ-HDND dated July 15, 2022 of the Provincial People's Council.
