More than 2.9 million elderly people participate in the mass movement to protect national security

This is the information shared by Mr. Nguyen Van Chinh, Head of the Committee for Promoting the Role of the Elderly, Vietnam Association of the Elderly on the morning of May 28 at the press conference to promote the 30th Anniversary of the Founding of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly and the 84th Anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnamese Elderly.

According to Mr. Chinh, in the summary report of the coordination program between the Ministry of Public Security and the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, in the period from 2021 to 2023, every year, there are about more than 1 million elderly people participating in the movement of the whole people protecting national security; 719 thousand elderly people participating in the Self-management Group and the Civil Defense Group, providing more than 100 thousand sources of crime reporting for the police force to handle. Statistics from 2021 to present, there are more than 2.9 million elderly people participating in the movement of the whole people protecting national security, providing more than 189 thousand valuable information to the police force. Local self-management groups have implemented many models of ensuring national security and order very well at the grassroots level.

Sharing more, Mr. Phan Van Hung, Vice President of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, said that to promote the role of the elderly, every year, the Central Association has documents to deploy to the associations of the elderly at all levels to carry out the movement of the whole people participating in protecting national security and order and all have assessments and summaries. Up to now, the elderly have participated and deployed many good models such as: Grandparents mobilizing their children and grandchildren to go to drug rehabilitation; signing with religious establishments on crime prevention and control; families do not violate the law and social evils; building cultural families, eliminating social evils; self-governing clans; village elders, village chiefs, prestigious people participating in protecting national security and order...

Currently, there are 17 million elderly people nationwide, and it is forecasted that by 2025, this number will increase to 25 million people. According to Mr. Phan Van Hung, over the past 84 years, the Vietnamese elderly have contributed their intelligence and efforts, upholding the spirit of "the older the age, the higher the ambition", setting a shining example for the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, contributing to the development of the country. Currently, there are more than 7 million elderly people nationwide who are entrepreneurs, businesses, owners of production and business establishments, participating in economic development, making effective and practical contributions to the development of the country, creating jobs for about 9 million elderly people and the community.

Many elderly people have been honored as Labor Heroes in the renovation period; nearly 1 million elderly people directly participate in building the grassroots political system; thousands of elderly people are elite intellectuals in research and training institutions, holding high positions; millions of elderly people voluntarily participate in the role of preserving and promoting traditional cultural values of the nation in the community; elderly people in the country and overseas Vietnamese are also messengers of peace, connecting friendship with friends around the world...

The Vietnam Association of the Elderly is the only organization representing the legitimate rights and interests of the Vietnamese elderly, actively participating in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland, having a profound influence in the community and society, and was awarded the Gold Star Medal by the State in 2011.

The Vietnam Association of the Elderly has increasingly close relations with international organizations on the elderly; actively participating in activities to implement international commitments on the rights of the elderly. In the future, according to the administrative arrangement, from the 4-level model, the Association will have 3 levels, but still maintain the connectivity and completeness of the model from the central to the grassroots level.

Regarding the 30th Anniversary of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly and the 84th Anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnamese Elderly, Mr. Tran Viet Luu, Deputy Chief of Office of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly, said that the Anniversary took place on the morning of June 6, at the Central bridge at the Conference Center 37 Hung Vuong, Ba Dinh, Hanoi, connecting with bridges in 63 provinces and cities across the country.
