* Speaking to reporters, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dac Phu, former Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine, senior advisor of the Vietnam Center for Public Health Emergency Response, said that the Covid-19 epidemic situation in our country is still under control, most new cases have mild symptoms or no symptoms, not overloading the health system.
Severe cases and deaths are mostly people with underlying diseases, the elderly, unvaccinated people, people with immunodeficiency...
These cases can become severe if infected with other infectious viruses such as flu, not just Covid-19 .
When the above subjects are infected with viral diseases, their immunity is reduced, making them susceptible to other diseases, leading to severe illness and death.
According to Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dac Phu, Vietnam has implemented the Strategy of "adapting, being safe, being flexible, and effectively controlling the Covid-19 epidemic" after the Government issued Resolution 128/NQ-CP in October 2021.
Although we have not yet converted the Covid-19 epidemic from group A to group B, many activities have been carried out as in group B, which are opening up, not banning travel, tourism, organizing meetings, organizing events, not requiring mandatory testing, relaxing quarantine... to do business, ensure social security...
Regarding this issue, epidemiological experts said that the classification of infectious diseases is carried out according to the provisions of the Law on Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases, in which group A includes especially dangerous infectious diseases that can be transmitted very quickly, spread widely and have a high mortality rate or the causative agent is unknown; group B includes dangerous infectious diseases that can be transmitted quickly and can cause death.
According to the analysis of Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dac Phu, we must clearly see that even if Covid-19 is classified in group B with other infectious diseases, Covid-19 must still be a specific disease because WHO has not announced the end of the Covid-19 pandemic.
At the same time, WHO still recommends that countries need to be cautious and move from emergency epidemic prevention and control to a sustainable, long-term epidemic control strategy.
Thus, regarding the policy and plan to prevent and fight the Covid-19 epidemic during this time, according to him, we need to closely monitor the epidemic situation to have appropriate and unsurprising responses, both controlling the epidemic in all situations but not being costly, protecting the health and interests of the people.
Special attention should be paid to monitoring activities, personal prevention, vaccination, communication, protection of vulnerable groups, etc.
The Ministry of Health is continuing to develop a sustainable response plan to the Covid-19 pandemic in the new situation, taking into account the emergence of new dangerous variants and widespread epidemics, etc.; Strengthening integrated surveillance of Covid-19 and other respiratory infections.
