(Dan Tri) - Rising water levels caused deep flooding, forcing patients being treated at Hue Central Hospital to evacuate. Floodwaters also caused hardship for relatives, who had to wait for each charity meal.

On the afternoon of October 28, according to Dan Tri reporters, inside the Hue Central Hospital campus, located next to the Huong River, in Thuan Hoa ward, Hue city, there are still many areas surrounded by floodwaters.

At the Stroke Department, which was deeply flooded, many patients on the lower floors were forced to evacuate since the night of October 27. Up to now, the seriously ill patients are still being evacuated and cannot return to their rooms.

Ms. TH (60 years old, residing in Hue City), being treated at the Stroke Department, said that many mild patients were moved to the 2nd and 3rd floors and each person had a small bed to sleep on temporarily. For severe patients who could not move on their own, the authorities, doctors, nurses and relatives helped evacuate them to a safe place.

“Yesterday (October 27), many patients without family members to care for them registered for hospital meals. Due to the deep flood water, doctors gave their meals to patients. The nursing team also waded through floodwaters to the canteen to ask for more food to bring to the patients,” Ms. H. said.

According to Dan Tri reporter, the flood also caused difficulties for many other patients.

An elderly woman in the North who brought her grandchild to Hue Central Hospital for treatment said that her grandchild was discharged on October 27, but could not return home due to rising water and train cancellations.

On the same day, a couple from Da Nang city took their child to Hue for treatment and were helped by the rescue team to move through deep flooded areas.

The patient’s mother said that her child had undergone surgery at the Children’s Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City and was advised to be transferred to Hue for further treatment. Despite knowing that there was a major flood in Hue, the family was forced to take their child for treatment in time.

Not only patients, but also their relatives who come to take care of them are in dire straits surrounded by floodwaters.

Ms. TTT (70 years old, residing in Ha Tinh province) went to Hue to take care of her daughter-in-law giving birth and said that since yesterday, many people have had to wait for each meal brought in by charity teams and groups to support them.

According to Ms. T., although there are canteens inside the hospital, the meals are not enough, and there is little rice and food. It is very difficult for patients’ families to wade out to buy food because most of the surrounding areas are deeply flooded.

According to the leader of Hue Central Hospital, heavy rains in recent days have caused the Huong River to rise, flooding many departments and patient rooms of this medical facility.

Hue Central Hospital has activated its emergency flood and storm prevention plan following the "4 on-site" principle. All staff members have been mobilized to evacuate patients, elevate equipment, ensure electricity, oxygen and daily living logistics.

Despite the deep flooding, emergency and treatment activities were not interrupted. Key centers such as Cardiology, Stroke, Intensive Care and Pediatrics continued to operate continuously. Electricity, oxygen and water systems were checked and reinforced by technical teams every hour.

Medical staff are on duty all night, using small boats to transport medicine and equipment between departments. Meals for patients and their families are still fully guaranteed.

By the morning of October 28, when the water gradually receded, the departments and rooms were urgently cleaning, disinfecting and stabilizing operations. Medical examination, treatment and emergency care continued as normal.
