Hong Nhung makes music to honor street sweepers, shoe shiners and housewives

The singer just had a press conference to introduce the single "Giọt nước mắt" , the live concert "Hong Nhung sings about Hanoi" and the vinyl record of the same name on the afternoon of October 18 in Hanoi.

The live concert will take place at 8pm on November 30 at the Ho Guom Theater, Hanoi. The single “Giọt Nước Mat” will be released tonight (October 18).

"If I could choose again, I would still choose to be Vietnamese."

The song "Tears" was composed by musician Vo Thien Thanh during the recent storm number 3.

Instead of a sad rhythm and gloomy lyrics, the musician incorporates rock music mixed with electronic music, bringing a fresh spirit and sending a positive message to the audience.

Recalling the story of visiting Thai Nguyen people during storm number 3, Hong Nhung said that in the most difficult moments, the qualities, inner strength and spirit of mutual support of the Vietnamese people are shown more strongly than ever.

"Normally, when we go out, we Vietnamese can argue, but when we need help, strangers are willing to help with effort and money," she said, then "for us artists, feelings are expressed through our works."

Hong Nhung added that this single is the premise for a community music project, collaborating with musician Vo Thien Thanh in 2025: the album Thank You .

The artist will include messages about green living, environmental protection, and other social stories. These include thanking and honoring street sweepers, shoe shiners, and housewives.

Hong Nhung said "if I had to choose again, I would still choose to be Vietnamese".

Director Cao Trung Hieu said he is from the South and knows Hanoi, imagines Hanoi mostly through Hong Nhung's singing. "This year Hanoi marks 70 years since the liberation of the capital, Hong Nhung cannot not sing about Hanoi," he said.

Along with the documentary series Hong Nhung Stories - Thong dong voi Bong, the live concert and the vinyl record Hong Nhung sings about Hanoi are probably the artist's longest and most epic series of projects dedicated to her hometown Hanoi.

Cao Trung Hieu said that this is probably the first time a crew made up mostly of Southerners has performed a Hanoi concert. "Our thoughts and feelings for Hanoi will be expressed through the concert, hoping to bring something different to the audience," he said.
