Cooperation in research and transfer of technical advances in durian cultivation in the period 2025 - 2030

The cooperation contents include: Cooperation in research and technology transfer in durian production in Dak Lak ; cooperation in solving some technical issues, food safety, residues in products, and urgent pests arising in practice; cooperation in training, seminars, training, and propaganda to replicate the results of cooperation on durian in Dak Lak.

Dr. Phan Viet Ha, Deputy Director in charge of the Central Highlands Agricultural and Forestry Science and Technology Institute, gave his opinion.

The goal of the cooperation program is to research and coordinate the treatment of cadmium and other residual chemicals in soil; develop a set of technical standards for Dak Lak durian; research varieties and optimal ecological zones for durian in Dak Lak province.

At the ceremony, delegates said that this cooperation is an important move in the context that the Vietnamese durian industry is facing many challenges when durian export output in the first months of 2025 decreased sharply compared to the same period in 2024, greatly affecting the export turnover value and growth of the whole industry.

Mr. Vu Duc Con, Chairman of Dak Lak Durian Association, spoke.

The main reason is that the Chinese market applies strict control measures on durian products (some shipments were found to be contaminated with cadmium and yellow O); while management is still limited due to lack of legal basis, processes, procedures and measures to manage and handle violations of growing area codes, traceability... to serve the management of exported durian quality.

The Western Highlands Agricultural and Forestry Science Institute – WASI and the Dak Lak Durian Association signed a cooperation agreement.

Delegates hope that after the signing ceremony, the two sides will have a specific action plan and quickly implement the signed contents to promptly bring Dak Lak durian into harvest and successful export.
