Huynh Thi My Tien is the only Vietnamese athlete to be able to participate in the tournament thanks to a wild card. Her goal is just to gain experience, as her competitors have overwhelming abilities.
On the morning of September 14, Tien competed in the women's 100m hurdles qualifying round. She was placed in group 2, with many very strong opponents from countries that dominate athletics such as the US and Jamaica. Therefore, it was not surprising that Tien was completely outclassed.
She finished after 13.77 seconds and ranked last in group 2. This is not a very good achievement for the Vietnamese "hot girl athlete". Previously, she reached the mark of 13.46 seconds at the 2023 Asian Championship.
My Tien's best result in 2025 was also 13.51 seconds. Therefore, completing the distance at only 13.77 seconds is not a good result for My Tien at the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
Even in the final rankings of the qualifying round, Tien only ranked 3rd from the bottom thanks to being ahead of Cecilia Francisco Guambe (Mozambique, 13.78 seconds) and Liz Clay (Australia, 13.82 seconds).
The women’s 100m hurdles qualifying round of this year’s World Athletics Championships featured 44 athletes, divided into six groups. The runner with the best result was none other than Jamaican runner and two-time world champion Danielle Williams, with a time of 12.40 seconds. She was also the one who competed in group 2 with Huynh Thi My Tien.
Second was Grace Stark of the United States with 12.46 seconds, and third was Nadine Visser of the Netherlands with 12.48 seconds.
