Many sections of National Highway 1, from the south of Ben Thuy Bridge to the north of the Ha Tinh City bypass, that were damaged, peeling, or had potholes, causing traffic safety hazards, have been patched and repaved.

On November 2nd, Ha Tinh Online Newspaper published an article titled "After heavy rain, National Highway 1, the northern section of the bypass around Ha Tinh City, deteriorates even more seriously," reflecting the situation where many sections of the road, already damaged, were further affected by heavy rains, resulting in severe surface peeling, numerous potholes, and traffic safety hazards.

Many sections of National Highway 1 are damaged and peeling, causing traffic safety hazards.

Following the publication of the information, Cienco4 Group Joint Stock Company (Cienco4) - the investor of the project to upgrade and expand National Highway 1 from the south of Ben Thuy Bridge to the north of the Ha Tinh City bypass - directed the Vinh City Bypass BOT Branch - the unit responsible for managing, maintaining, and repairing the road - to mobilize machinery and personnel to repair the damaged sections of the road.

Mr. Nguyen Danh Thin, Head of the Road Management Unit (BOT branch of the Vinh City bypass), said: Due to damage and peeling in some sections of the road, the unit has implemented repair work. However, the recent heavy rains in Ha Tinh have interrupted the repair efforts.

Sections of the road that were severely damaged were scraped up and repaved with a new layer of asphalt concrete.

"There were times when the road surface had been scraped but paving couldn't be carried out due to rain. The unit had to wait until the sun came out and the road surface dried before it could be repaved," Mr. Nguyen Danh Thin informed.

According to the Head of the Road Management Department (BOT branch of the Vinh City bypass), immediately after the heavy rains from October 28-31 in Ha Tinh province ended, the unit resumed repairs on November 1.

Two solutions are being applied: areas with peeling or damaged road surfaces creating potholes are temporarily patched with asphalt concrete, while the option of scraping off the asphalt is preferred for sections with severe road surface damage that pose a risk to traffic safety.

The section of road passing through Thach Lien commune, Thach Ha district, has been repaved.

Along with temporary patching of potholes, the severely damaged sections that Ha Tinh Newspaper previously reported on, such as the sections through Thach Lien and Thach Kenh communes (Thach Ha district); Nghen town, Thien Loc and Vuong Loc communes (Can Loc district), have now had their old road surfaces scraped off, cleaned, coated with emulsion, and re-laid with a new layer of hot asphalt concrete.

“Since the Road Management Area II (Vietnam Road Administration) requested it (September 15th), the unit has repaired 10,000 . Instead of 5cm as before, the sections of the road are now repaved with a 12cm thick layer of hot asphalt concrete, contributing to ensuring smooth traffic flow for people and vehicles, at least in rainy and windy weather,” informed Mr. Nguyen Danh Thin – Head of the Road Management Unit of the BOT Vinh City bypass branch.

A significant amount of road surface and roadbed work still needs to be done.

While acknowledging that the current condition of the road surface and roadbed of National Highway 1 from the south of Ben Thuy Bridge to the north of the Ha Tinh City bypass has improved significantly, the route management unit also confirmed that many sections along the more than 35km stretch through Ha Tinh still require improvement.

Furthermore, the scraping and resurfacing of the 12cm thick asphalt concrete layer has only been carried out on specific lanes and in specific directions of travel. For example, on the section through Thach Lien commune, only the second lane for cars, counting from the solid median strip in the South-North direction, has been repaired.

The section passing through Nghèn town, Can Lộc district, has been scraped and repaved.

According to the Road Management Department of the BOT Vinh City bypass branch, in the coming days, if the weather is good, the unit will continue to repair the road surface and roadbed in severely damaged sections such as: the section through Thach Kenh commune, the traffic light cluster area in Viet Tien commune (Thach Ha district)...

“After completing the repairs to the severely damaged sections of the road, the unit will continue to repair the section from Bui Cam Ho intersection (Hong Linh town) to Thach Ha district in a phased manner. This section has many damaged roadbeds. After the repairs are completed, road markings will be painted.”

"In the near future, the road surface of National Highway 1 will be significantly improved," affirmed Mr. Nguyen Danh Thin, Head of the Road Management Unit of the BOT Vinh City Bypass Branch.
