According to the swimmer born in 2000, the mental factor helped the Vietnamese swimming team overcome strong opponents to defend the SEA Games gold medal.

Emotional sprint of Vietnam swimming team On the evening of May 7, Nguyen Huu Kim Son, Hoang Quy Phuoc, Nguyen Huy Hoang and Tran Hung Nguyen helped the Vietnam Sports Delegation win the gold medal in the men's 4x200m freestyle swimming event.

"I am very happy to have successfully defended the SEA Games gold medal. Today, all four of us did not compete very well but still won. This makes us very happy," Nguyen Huy Hoang shared after winning the gold medal in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay with his teammates.

"Usually, I start competing in individual events first, but at this year's SEA Games, the team event takes place first. This makes me feel quite nervous. My teammates and I always encourage each other to give the audience the best performance," the swimmer born in 2000 added.

Despite being far behind their opponents in the first two races, the Vietnamese team still showed a relaxed spirit and even smiled. In the third and fourth races, Quy Phuoc and Hung Nguyen accelerated spectacularly to gradually surpass their opponents Singapore and Malaysia, thereby bringing home the gold medal.

"Tactics are just one part. The most important thing to win is spirit. My teammates and I always advise each other to overcome all difficulties," Huy Hoang added.

Evaluating the men's 4x200m freestyle relay, Huy Hoang said: "Everything was very dramatic. Our opponents were far ahead of us in the first 3 rounds. Towards the end, the Vietnamese team competed well to come in first."

Sharing the same opinion with Huy Hoang, Quy Phuoc, who completed his task well in the third round of swimming, thereby creating the premise for the victory of the Vietnamese team, shared: "At this time, my teammates and I are very excited. After defending the SEA Games gold medal, we will all strive to improve ourselves to reach the immediate goal of ASIAD."

"This medal means a lot. It is a testament to our team spirit. We have always stood side by side, fought together and won medals together," the athlete from Da Nang emphasized.

On the competition day of May 7, the Vietnamese swimming team also won another gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke event won by Pham Thanh Bao. Jeremie Luong also contributed a bronze medal in the men's 50m freestyle.

In the following days, the Vietnamese sports delegation hopes to win more gold medals in individual events with the participation of Huy Hoang.
