The legend of Robin Hood is set to return to the small screen in a brand new version of the same name, exploring the origins of the Sherwood Forest hero through a more personal, authentic and historical perspective than ever before.
In this reappearance, instead of the familiar green cape or the cry of "rob the rich, give to the poor," the audience is led to the origin of the legend - where Robin is not a hero, but just a Saxon boy forced into a corner by history.
Set in 12th-century England, after the Norman conquest, the 10-episode series “ Robin Hood ” by filmmakers John Glenn and Jonathan English explores class conflict and the pain of the oppressed class.
There, the bow and arrow are not just weapons, but symbols of the uprising of the right to speak for the voiceless.
Taking on the role of Robin Hood is 28-year-old Australian actor Jack Patten, who is playing the male lead for the first time. He admits that this is a big challenge but also a rare opportunity.
“I think every generation deserves their own Robin Hood,” Patten said at the film’s London premiere. “It’s fantastic to be able to embody that icon for today’s generation.”
Interestingly, Patten had never seen any previous versions of Robin Hood, which helped him escape the pressure of comparison and bring a fresher image.
Creators John Glenn and Jonathan English say they wanted to create an “original Robin Hood” never before seen – not just the legendary archery but also a story about origins, about class and about the people behind the icon.
“We wanted to tell the story of how Robin became an outlaw – what happened to him, what happened to his parents,” says filmmaker Jonathan English. “It’s a story about the Norman Conquest of England, about class conflict – a topic that is still very relevant.”
Alongside Patten is Lauren McQueen as Marian, daughter of the Norman lord who usurped Robin's land. Their union creates a tragic yet passionate love story that is also the central emotional thread throughout the film.
In addition, “ Robin Hood ” also attracts attention with two veteran actors: Sean Bean as Sheriff of Nottingham - Robin's archenemy, and Connie Nielsen as Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine.
The film is scheduled to officially air on November 2 on the MGM+ platform, promising to bring a fresh, intense and humane look at the hero admired by generations of movie lovers./.
