Indonesia becomes Vietnam's third largest rice import market

In the first four months of 2023, the volume and value of rice exports to many Asian countries increased sharply. Of which, Indonesia, for the first time in history, became the third largest customer of Vietnamese rice, behind only the Philippines and China.

According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, Indonesia has continuously increased its purchase of Vietnamese rice in recent months. In the first four months of this year alone, rice exports to this market earned 149 million USD. Meanwhile, the whole of last year was only 58 million USD.

With this turnover, Indonesia has for the first time become the third largest customer of Vietnamese rice, behind only the Philippines and China.

As for the Philippines, this market is still the largest customer of Vietnamese rice. As of the end of April, the value of rice exports to the Philippines reached 647.5 million USD, up 53.4% ​​over the same period last year. China is the second largest export market with a turnover of 292.5 million USD, up 88.2% over the same period.

In the first four months of 2023, Vietnam exported nearly 2.9 million tons, up 40.7% with a turnover of 1.53 billion USD, up 51.6% over the same period last year. The average export price of rice reached 526 USD/ton, up 7.6%.
