The win saw Inter beat city rivals Milan 3-0 on aggregate. The Milanese side will face either Real Madrid or Man City in the final in Istanbul on June 10. Their performances in both legs of the Milan derby semi-final suggest they will be tough to beat in the final.
Martinez scores to send Inter into the final
Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, AC Milan attacked strongly in the first half, spearheaded by Rafael Leao, who did not feature in last week's derby. The key moment of the return leg at the San Siro came when Argentine Lautaro Martinez collected a pass from Romelu Lukaku and fired a close-range shot past AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan in the 74th minute to secure a 1-0 win.
In this match, goalkeeper Maignan played excellently with a number of saves. But the presence of Lukaku in the second half helped Inter's attack play more sharply.
AC Milan's disappointment
Having missed much of the season through injury and with his reputation tarnished by a disastrous 2022 World Cup with Belgium, Lukaku is slowly rediscovering his best form. The on-loan striker from Chelsea troubled the AC Milan defence and set up Martinez for the goal that secured their place in a first Champions League final since last winning the European club competition under Jose Mourinho in 2010.
"It's a dream come true," said Inter coach Simone Inzaghi. "We always believed we could do it, we had an incredible journey to the final. What pleases me? Everything. The running, the determination, the concentration... they were all very good."
