Karik releases rap's first double album, celebrating 15 years in the profession

On July 11th, Karik officially released the first double album in Vietnamese rap history, titled "421," marking 15 years of dedication to rap music.

The album comprises 14 tracks, divided into two separate albums with contrasting styles: Bright Side and Dark Side. Accordingly, each part of the album showcases a distinct aspect, demonstrating the diversity and versatility in the rapper's musical style.

Karik explained that he chose the number "421" as the album title to signify "4 years, 2 albums, 1 journey" and only one Karik. Additionally, when read in reverse, "421" is also the rapper's birthday (April 12th). Furthermore, the sum of the three numbers equals 7 – a number with special significance to Karik and also the number of songs in each part of the album.

According to Karik, "421" not only recounts his artistic journey but also his maturation process in love and life.

Previously, Karik released four songs: "Có chơi có chịu" (You Play, You Pay), "Bạn đời" (Life Partner), "Mời người kế tiếp" (Invite the Next Person) from the Bright Side , and most recently, "Nhật ký vào đời" ( Diary of Life) in collaboration with Thai VG from the Dark Side . The remaining ten songs in this album have officially been released, continuing and expanding on the spirit of the previous tracks.

The order of the songs in the double album is arranged by Karik, moving from dark and hidden corners that he rarely includes in his music, gradually shifting to brighter aspects.

Sharing his thoughts on this special album, Karik hopes that through the stories he tells, the audience will find empathy for their own experiences.

Karik stated that Dark Side is a piece of music heavily influenced by underground hip hop with edgy rap lyrics. This brought back memories of his early days in his career.

Bright Side marks a long journey for Karik, from the time he decided to bring rap and hip hop closer to the audience, trying out and adapting to musical genres that suit the tastes of the masses.

The seven songs on Bright Side represent seven different musical styles with catchy melodies, reflecting Karik's empathy and maturity in his thoughts as he contemplates love and life.

Besides the music, Karik's album "421" also marks an investment in visuals. The concept for the entire album and the imagery for each song were carefully considered by Karik, with creative designs that showcase a shift in emotions from dark to more vibrant.

The double album "421" marks a significant milestone in Karik's musical journey after 15 years in the rap genre. The two albums also highlight Karik's journey, showcasing his ability to conquer both mainstream and underground music, whether as a rapper with songs catering to audience tastes or as an underground artist with hip-hop-infused rap.
