Chairman of Thang Loi Commune People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc Tuong said that immediately after the incident occurred on the afternoon of May 1, local authorities coordinated with the Border Guard and functional forces of the province and district to urgently deploy search work.

Border patrol boats and fishing boats divided into groups continuously searched the waters of Mo Duc district for missing victims.

“The rescue team has been searching all night on May 1 and May 2, but as of 5 p.m. (afternoon of May 2), there are still no results. We have determined to continue searching to bring the victims back to their families soon. Currently, in addition to fishermen, the provincial rescue team, the provincial Border Guard, there is also the participation of the Quang Nam SOS Emergency Rescue Team to support the search,” said Mr. Tuong.

According to Mr. Tuong, the area where the drowning occurred is a steep sea area with big waves and no specialized rescue force. The local government has put up warning signs of danger, but some people, especially tourists and students from other places, still ignore the warnings.

“Locals know the danger zone very well so they rarely swim here. Meanwhile, visitors from outside the area, especially children, often go to deserted beaches to have fun, which can easily lead to unfortunate accidents,” Mr. Tuong shared.

Currently, Duc Minh Border Guard Station has also notified the two neighboring border guards to mobilize officers, soldiers and local people to organize coastal patrols and mobilize ships operating in the province's waters to increase observation and support the family in searching for the missing.
