The exhibition "Handmade Eco-Art" by French artist David Del Kan takes place from May 7 to 11 at the Da Nang Museum.

The exhibition brings together nearly 200 eco-artworks handmade from trash, aiming to honor art through trash and spread the spirit of recycling waste, protecting the environment, and sustainable development.

Waste recycling

From his passion for painting and love for the environment, and concerns about recycling waste, artist David Del Kan has regenerated scrap materials, turning them into soulful and valuable works.

Waste such as cans, steel frames, old utensils or coffee shop table tops... under the skillful hands and imagination of David Del Kan can all become materials to create unique paintings or models.

David Del Kan found materials on the side of the road, in scrap yards or wherever he went.

When seeing abundant but familiar materials such as water cans, plastic bottles, mats, unusable wooden tables and chairs, discarded corrugated iron sheets... David Del Kan came up with the idea of turning them into meaningful paintings.

According to David Del Kan, reusing seemingly discarded things not only avoids waste, creates valuable works, but also spreads to everyone about recycling waste and protecting the environment.

“I want to protect the planet, I want to save the world from climate change, that's really important to me.

I don't like seeing trash everywhere, the environment is getting more and more polluted. I love the environment and want to recycle waste. That's why I create works of art from recycled waste," said Mr. David Del Kan.

The paintings are drawn on sackcloth and discarded cloth.

Works from trash but not cheap

It takes David Del Kan about 1 month to complete a work, and about 2 months for elaborate and detailed works. He breathes life into his works entirely by hand.

With his skillful hands, David Del Kan has transformed cans into interesting animal models, discarded cloth into images of beautiful girls, and burlap sacks are where he swings his brush to create vivid paintings.

David Del Kan’s works are made from waste but they have high artistic and material value. Many of the works displayed at the exhibition are worth hundreds of millions of VND.

The works displayed at the Da Nang Museum have created excitement for many people because visitors did not expect them to be created from seemingly discarded materials.

For David Del Kan, discarded trash has its own beauty and value.

Leading a group of kindergarten students to visit the exhibition, Ms. Vu Thi Thanh Huyen (teacher at Hoa Ban Primary School) realized that these are practical works, helping children learn about recycling waste and are meaningfuleducational content for children about environmental protection.

"I feel that these works are very meaningful to the environment when they utilize and recycle discarded products to create works that are close to life. These works will teach people positive meanings of life about recycling waste and protecting the environment," said Ms. Vu Thi Thanh Huyen.
