According to data from Vietnam Customs, Vietnam's pangasius exports in January 2025 reached over $133 million, a decrease of 19% compared to the same period last year. The ranking of the largest importing markets for Vietnamese pangasius has also been adjusted.
In terms of consumer markets, China and Hong Kong (China) continue to be the main markets. consume Vietnam's pangasius exports in the first month of this year reached over $31 million, a 40% decrease compared to the same period in 2024, accounting for 24% of total pangasius exports to the world .
In January 2025, the market bloc supported by the CPTPP agreement surpassed the US to become the second largest importer of Vietnamese pangasius, although export turnover to this bloc decreased by 17% compared to January 2024, reaching $21 million. Of this, pangasius exports to Mexico remained the highest in the bloc, exceeding $5 million, a decrease of 20% compared to the same period.
According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Processing and Export (VASEP), the US was Vietnam's third-largest market for pangasius in the first month of the year, after consistently ranking second behind China and Hong Kong (China) for many years. Pangasius exports to the US in the first month of 2025 reached US$18 million, a 2% decrease compared to the same period last year.
Pangasius exports to the EU in January 2025 reached over $13 million, a 2% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Of this, the Netherlands remained the largest consumer of Vietnamese pangasius within the bloc, with over $3.4 million, a 9% decrease compared to January 2024.
In the first month of this year, pangasius exports to Germany recorded a positive growth of 57%, reaching a value of nearly 3 million USD. However, many other markets experienced sharp declines, such as Colombia (down 38%), Spain (down 33%), and the UK (down 30%).
