The Farmers' Association of Khong Lao Commune (Lao Cai) currently has 33 branches, with 3,074 members. The spirit of emulation in production labor is strongly promoted, associated with the dissemination of technical knowledge and the replication of suitable economic models. Propaganda work is widely deployed, helping farmers switch from small-scale farming to concentrated farming, ensuring biosafety and focusing on the conservation and development of livestock breeds with high economic value. Many models of fattening buffalo and cows, applying biological bedding have shown clear results. Thanks to that, the livestock herd has developed stably in both quantity and quality; the average livestock growth rate is more than 5.5%/year, the whole commune currently has more than 41,500 cattle.

Along with livestock farming, the Commune Farmers' Association encourages its members to expand the area of planting endemic plant varieties to form commodity production areas with local characteristics such as Khau Luong Phung sticky rice and Phong Tho non-rice. Many agricultural extension models have been implemented, from testing new varieties to building product consumption chains such as sugarcane, high-quality pure rice, tea, mango or taro. These models not only increase income but also help farmers access advanced production processes, meeting market requirements.
The economic structure of the commune has changed positively in recent years. Rice productivity and output have increased steadily over the years, with average food per capita reaching 382 kg/year. Many OCOP products have been created in the area, typically Phong Tho honey, Hoang Then ancient Shan Tuyet green tea, crispy dried bananas, soft dried bananas and honey dried bananas. The products have gradually expanded their markets, increasing the added value of local agricultural products.
Many members have boldly developed a comprehensive economy. Mr. Ly Phu Quang's family in Then Thau village has received technical support and advice from the Association on the VAC model. With 500m² of cassava, 1,000m² of taro, more than 1ha of cassava, more than 1ha of cardamom, and 300m² of fish ponds and livestock, the model brings in an income of nearly 200 million VND per year after deducting expenses, becoming a typical direction to help farmers increase their income.
Many other households choose to develop their economy from rubber trees, fruit trees or combine farming with livestock. Thanks to the application of mechanization, agricultural production has increasingly reduced labor and increased efficiency. Up to now, 90% of households in the commune have owned plows and harrows; 62% of households have mini threshers, helping to shorten harvest time and reduce costs. In the period of 2023 - 2025, the whole commune has 502 households achieving the title of good production and business at all levels, demonstrating the strong spread of the emulation movement.

In the new rural construction program, the Commune Farmers' Association has mobilized members to actively participate and make practical contributions by donating more than 3,570 square meters of land and more than 2,180 working days to build internal roads, internal fields and welfare works. People regularly clean up village roads and alleys, protect the environment and gradually eliminate backward customs, and build a healthy cultural life. Up to now, Khong Lao commune has achieved 12 out of 19 new rural criteria, demonstrating solidarity and consensus in the community.
Mr. Teo Van Duyen, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Khong Lao Commune, affirmed that the Association always innovates the content and methods of operation, accompanies members to improve production level, access science and technology and develop sustainable economy. The results achieved in recent times have contributed significantly to the implementation of socio-economic development goals, maintaining security and order and improving people's lives.
Operating effectively, the Farmers' Association of Khong Lao commune continues to affirm its core role in agricultural development, new rural construction and sustainable poverty reduction, contributing with local Party committees and authorities to realize the goals set out in the Resolution of the Commune Party Congress.
