5G and IoT – Key to promoting digital transformation in Hung Yen industrial parks

As one of the provinces with the fastest industrialization speed in the North, Hung Yen is making a strong shift in applying digital technology to production. The deployment of 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure in industrial parks and clusters is identified as a key task, paving the way for the development of smart industry and sustainable digital economy.

In the context of the widespread spread of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, 5G and IoT have become the foundation for smart production lines. With a vision to stay ahead of the trend, Hung Yen considers the deployment of these two technologies as a strategic step to improve competitiveness and attract investment.

According to Plan No. 45/KH-UBND dated August 26, 2025, Hung Yen will build 1,229 new 5G BTS stations in the 2025-2026 period, bringing the total number of stations to 1,335, gradually forming a synchronous and modern 5G network.

Hung Yen province has prioritized three key tasks, including: Building a 5G broadcasting station system and core network, creating a high-speed and stable connection platform for the entire industrial park and cluster. This is the first step towards forming a modern digital infrastructure, meeting the need for large data transmission in production.

Along with that, Hung Yen also deployed an IoT platform to connect, manage and collect data from thousands of devices in the enterprise. This system helps synchronize information from sensors, machines, industrial robots, facilitating the operation of smart production lines and making data-based decisions.

The third task is to test and optimize network quality as well as IoT applications in actual production. Pilot models will help evaluate efficiency, adjust infrastructure and expand deployment to suit the needs of each industrial park.

The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Science and Technology to be the focal point to monitor and guide telecommunications enterprises in implementation, and coordinate to resolve arising difficulties. The Department of Construction is responsible for licensing, planning, and site clearance for fiber optic cable systems and BTS stations, ensuring transparent procedures and implementation progress.

When completed, the 5G – IoT infrastructure is expected to become an important foundation to help industrial parks accelerate digital transformation, improve production efficiency, increase competitiveness and attract more high-tech projects.

Building a 5G network in industrial zones not only aims to increase Internet access speed but also creates a stable connection environment for industrial applications that require precision and low latency. This is a necessary condition for developing smart factory models.

5G's ultra-high transmission speed enables the transfer of big data from sensors and machines to cloud platforms or AI systems in real time, serving analysis and production quality control.

Latency of only about 1ms opens up the ability to control robots and machines remotely with high precision, meeting the requirements of automated production lines.

The ability to connect millions of devices per km² helps to effectively manage dense sensor systems in factories, ensuring information is always updated continuously.

In parallel, the IoT platform is considered the "brain" of the smart manufacturing system, allowing diverse connections from temperature, pressure, and vibration sensors to robots and industrial machines.

Thanks to the centralized monitoring system, all operations in the factory can be monitored through a single interface, helping to detect and handle problems promptly.

Data collected from devices is analyzed on a cloud platform, providing important information on performance, maintenance needs and process optimization, helping businesses reduce costs and improve operational quality.

Thanks to real-time data, businesses can reduce errors, limit waste and improve product quality. IoT systems also support supply chain monitoring, from warehousing to transportation, ensuring goods are properly preserved.

In many factories in the province, robots have been controlled via 5G networks to handle repetitive or dangerous tasks. Production lines are equipped with IoT sensors to monitor product quality, automatically detect and remove defective products.

Viettel Hung Yen has also installed 5G broadcasting stations at Lien Ha Thai Industrial Park, expanding coverage, creating conditions for businesses to test and operate smart production models.

A representative of the Provincial Business Association said that synchronizing 5G and IoT infrastructure not only helps businesses optimize operating costs but also opens up new directions for industrial development based on innovation. “Hung Yen is creating a solid foundation for forming a digital industrial ecosystem, attracting high-tech enterprises and creating more quality jobs,” he shared.

The deployment of 5G and IoT is considered a strategic step for the province in the process of catching up with the 4.0 industrial revolution, towards building a modern, efficient and sustainable industry.
