Do not use cassava varieties from areas affected by mosaic disease for new planting in the 2024 crop year.

Starting to cause damage in 2020 in Hai Lang district and Quang Tri town, up to now, cassava mosaic disease has spread to localities in Quang Tri province with a total infected area in 2024 of 1,180 hectares, of which 222 hectares are heavily infected.

The reason is that some localities have not been resolute in implementing measures to manage cassava mosaic disease, especially people are still indifferent, using seeds from diseased areas for planting and arbitrarily buying new seeds of unknown origin from epidemic areas to plant in the area.

Therefore, it is forecasted that in the 2024-2025 crop year, cassava mosaic disease will continue to spread, causing damage in many places, causing poor cassava growth, greatly affecting cassava productivity, output and quality.

Currently, localities are preparing to enter the 2024 - 2025 crop year. To proactively prevent mosaic disease, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requests the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to direct localities to review the current status of cassava areas expected to be planted for the new crop year; absolutely do not use cassava cuttings from infected cassava areas to plant for the 2024 - 2025 crop year; strictly comply with legal regulations on the purchase, sale and transportation of cassava seeds.
