These days, the two cities of Rach Gia and Phu Quoc in Kien Giang province are bustling with a grand festival atmosphere. That is the traditional festival commemorating the 156th anniversary of the sacrifice of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc (1968 - 2024) opening in Rach Gia city on the evening of September 28 (August 26, Nham Thin).

This is the biggest festival of the province, taking place annually on August 26, 27 and 28 (lunar calendar), to commemorate the merits and sacrifices of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc.

Nguyen Trung Truc communal house festival is a traditional festival recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2023.

In Phu Quoc, this traditional festival also takes place bustlingly.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Luu Trung - Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee - said that the festival is increasingly expanding its scale of organization in festival activities, in addition to traditional rituals that are organized solemnly and respectfully.

In particular, the festival connects with many activities on a national and regional scale, such as: Southern Amateur Music Space Stage; Fine Arts Exhibition of Region VIII of the Mekong Delta; Forum connecting OCOP products of the Mekong Delta region...

According to the Department of Culture and Sports of Kien Giang province, this year the locality expects to welcome more than 1 million visitors to pay homage and burn incense in memory of Mr. Nguyen Trung Truc.

To show hospitality to the festival participants, the organizing committee received more than 300 tons of vegetables, rice, drinks, free accommodation and rest in the spirit of volunteerism from people and businesses, and at the same time, made diverse and unique vegetarian dishes to treat people during the festival days.

Visitors and locals coming here are served free meals and accommodation during the festival days.

To contribute to creating a joyful atmosphere for the festival, Kien Giang Children's House organized a performance to serve the people and tourists on the evening of September 28; coordinated with the Provincial Youth Union to organize a youth stage festival with the theme "National Heroic Spirit" to praise National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc at the Kien Giang Children's House stage.

At the same time, in Phu Quoc, the festival atmosphere was equally bustling and solemn, taking place for 3 days in Cua Can commune - the resistance base of Nguyen Trung Truc's army and Nguyen Trung Truc communal house in Ganh Dau commune.
