Since the 26th Central Committee meeting on preventing and combating corruption, waste, and negativity on August 14, 6 senior officials under the management of the Politburo and Secretariat have been disciplined.

Additional tasks of waste prevention and control

On the afternoon of October 30, the Central Internal Affairs Committee held a press conference to inform about the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Central Steering Committee on preventing and combating corruption, waste and negativity (Steering Committee) which took place the same morning.

General Secretary To Lam chaired the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Central Steering Committee on preventing and combating corruption, waste and negativity on October 30.

Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission Dang Van Dung said that on October 29, the Politburo issued Regulation No. 191-QD/TW on the functions, tasks, powers, working regime, and working relations of the Steering Committee (replacing Regulation No. 32/2021) and Decision No. 192-QD/TW on strengthening the Central Steering Committee on preventing and combating corruption, waste, and negativity.

"This has added to the Steering Committee the task of preventing and combating waste, focusing on preventing and combating waste in the management and use of public finance and public assets," said Mr. Dung.

Therefore, the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee requests that Party committees, Party organizations, and functional agencies must continue to further promote the work of preventing and combating corruption, waste, and negativity, while focusing on directing the promotion of the work of preventing and combating waste; determining that preventing and combating waste has an equivalent position to preventing and combating corruption and negativity.

Regarding the tasks in the coming time, the Steering Committee requires the complete handling of serious, complicated corruption and negative cases and incidents that are of public concern. From now until the end of 2024, the investigation, prosecution and trial of 12 cases and 2 incidents will be completed.

In which, 2 key cases were brought to trial according to the plan of the Steering Committee, including: The case occurred at the Medical Construction Project Management Board under the Department of Health of Bac Ninh province, AIC International Progress Joint Stock Company and related units; The case occurred at Xuyen Viet Oil Transport and Tourism Trading Company Limited and a number of related agencies and organizations.

The Steering Committee also directed the review and handling of unfinished and prolonged projects that cause waste of state and social resources. First of all, the investment projects to build the second facility of Bach Mai Hospital and the second facility of Viet Duc Hospital; the project to solve flooding caused by tides in Ho Chi Minh City; and renewable energy projects that have been built but have not been connected and operated.

For more information, Mr. Dang Van Dung said that since the 26th meeting of the Steering Committee (August 14) up to now, the authorities have made many efforts, tried, closely coordinated, and strictly implemented the conclusions of the meetings of the Steering Committee and the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee.

The work of preventing and combating corruption and negativity continues to be implemented strongly, resolutely, persistently, continuously, without rest, without forbidden areas, without exceptions.

Specifically, Party committees and inspection committees at all levels focus on inspecting and strictly handling Party organizations, cadres and Party members who violate regulations related to corruption and negative cases and incidents according to the conclusions of the Steering Committee.

The Central Inspection Commission has focused on inspecting and directing inspections of party organizations and party members related to the cases at Phuc Son Group and Thuan An Group; completed inspections related to AIC Company; through inspections, it has handled and recommended handling 247 party organizations and 441 party members, and transferred 26 cases to the investigation agency for handling according to its authority.

"The Politburo, the Secretariat, and the Central Inspection Commission have disciplined six senior officials under the management of the Politburo and the Secretariat, bringing the total number of senior officials disciplined since the beginning of the year to 52; of which, 48 officials were disciplined due to their involvement in cases and incidents under the supervision and direction of the Steering Committee," said Mr. Dung.

In addition, the prosecution agencies nationwide have prosecuted and investigated 734 cases/1,681 defendants, prosecuted 591 cases/1,479 defendants, and tried 1,002 cases/2,703 defendants at first instance for corruption, economic, and position-related crimes.

In particular, the cases and incidents under the supervision and direction of the Steering Committee have concluded the investigation of 4 cases/58 defendants; concluded the supplementary investigation of 1 case/9 ​​defendants; issued indictments to prosecute 4 cases/52 defendants; tried at first instance 3 cases/290 defendants; tried at appeal 3 cases/12 defendants; initiated a new case/5 defendants, and prosecuted 22 additional defendants in a number of cases...

The Deputy Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission emphasized that the work of detecting and handling corruption and negativity at the local and grassroots levels continues to be promoted.

"Since the 26th Session, localities have initiated 656 new cases/1,367 defendants for corruption, economic and position crimes, including 169 cases/347 defendants for corruption crimes, bringing the total number of newly initiated corruption cases in localities from the beginning of 2024 to now to 613 cases/1,350 defendants (an increase of more than 70 cases compared to the same period last year)," Mr. Dung informed.

In addition, according to Mr. Dung, the authorities continue to detect and strictly handle many corrupt and negative cadres and party members in agencies with the function of preventing and combating corruption and negative acts. Since the beginning of the year, more than 160 cadres in these agencies have been criminally prosecuted for corruption and negative acts.
