In exchange for a thousand-dollar salary and a bright future in the city, engineer Dang Duong Minh Hoang chose an unexpected turn. That is, returning to his hometown to start a digital revolution on his own land.
From aspiring engineer to technology 'butter king'
With a degree in automation engineering from France and attractive offers, Dang Duong Minh Hoang's career path seemed to be predetermined at large corporations. However, he decided to change direction, returning to his hometown in Bu Gia Map district, Binh Phuoc province (now Duc Hanh commune, Dong Nai province) to write his own story with agriculture.
That bold decision paid off. At the age of 37, Mr. Hoang is now the owner of the prosperous Thien Nong Farm of over 50 hectares. On that land, 12 hectares of Ma Duong avocado trees are not only a regional specialty but also a "machine" that brings in over 6 billion VND in revenue each year.
From here, avocados not only conquer the domestic market but also confidently set foot in Laos, Cambodia, Taiwan (China), Japan, and are continuing their journey to reach Europe.
What has helped a young farmer bring Vietnamese avocados to conquer demanding international markets? For Dang Duong Minh Hoang, the answer lies in two words: Technology. He has applied Blockchain technology to create an "electronic passport" for each avocado.
With just one QR code scan on your phone, the entire "diary" of the avocado - from the garden, the care process, the type of fertilizer to the harvest date - is transparently displayed. This "no distance" strategy has brought the "Ong Hoang Avocado" brand past intermediaries to reach consumers directly, building a solid trust through transparency.
"It is clear that the trend of clean agriculture and eating to avoid getting sick is an inevitable trend of consumers, and is being sought after by many people. However, if you do organic agriculture but do not know, or do not know how to do digital agriculture, you will lose the opportunity to connect with consumers. Combining digital agriculture and organic agriculture helps consumers monitor remotely, make the production process, the cultivation process of plants transparent, protect the brand, and build the brand," Mr. Hoang shared.
Not only is the production process transparent, the farm is also almost completely automated. The sensor system, drip irrigation and automatic fertilization to each tree, allows Mr. Hoang to operate the entire farm via just a smartphone. This VietGAP standard model is the foundation that helped him win the prestigious Luong Dinh Cua Award in 2021.
Journey to spread the flame of passion
Not only keeping success to himself, Mr. Hoang believes that in agriculture, "if you want to go far, you have to go together". This philosophy has become the guiding principle for his journey to spread values. In June 2022, with the support of like-minded people, Binh Phuoc Digital Agriculture Cooperative was born. This is one of the pioneering cooperatives in digital transformation in the province, quickly expanding the high-tech avocado growing model to an area of 200 hectares.
As the Director of the Cooperative and Head of the national Luong Dinh Cua network, Mr. Hoang has become an inspiration, directly consulting and transferring technology, creating a modern agricultural ecosystem, helping farmers get rich together.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Hieu, owner of Gia Bao Ecofarm in Phuoc Tin commune, Phuoc Long town (now Phuoc Long ward, Dong Nai province), Deputy Director of the Cooperative, proudly commented that Engineer Hoang has strengths in the field of information technology, so he is very sensitive to new technologies, from there he has guided his brothers, as well as connected information sources to make the digitalization of agriculture stronger and smoother.
Mr. Hoang’s model is not only a single success story, but has become a source of inspiration, a typical model for the smart agricultural direction of the whole Dong Nai province. The wave of high-tech application is spreading more and more, from farms to small farming households.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Quang, Deputy Director of Dong Nai Department of Science and Technology affirmed that the government's support will increase support and technical guidance for farmers, especially in remote areas, through the industrial promotion system and universities and businesses; build a digital agricultural database connecting from the province to communes and wards, monitor production and forecast the market more accurately.
"The government prioritizes resources from provincial and national science and technology programs to invest in digital infrastructure and technology equipment to transfer to production. With the support of the government, scientists, businesses and people, the application of science and technology will become a key driving force, bringing Dong Nai agriculture to develop sustainably, intelligently and competitively in the future," Mr. Quang believes.

The story from Dang Duong Minh Hoang's avocado garden has shown that the seeds of technology, when sown in the homeland with intelligence and aspiration, can blossom into "sweet fruits" reaching the world. It is not only an individual's journey to wealth, but also a promising opening chapter for Vietnamese agriculture on the global digital map.
