On the morning of April 1, the 31st National Mathematics Olympiad for Students in 2025 opened at Saigon University. The exam was organized by the Vietnam Mathematical Society in collaboration with Saigon University.

Thus, since the first time it was held at the University of Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University) in 2003, it has been 22 years since the exam was held at a university in the Southern region.

This year's Student Mathematical Olympiad for students has the participation of 90 delegations from academies and universities. The total number of students participating in the exam is 649 students with 749 registrations in algebra and analysis, divided into two groups A and B.

The exam for students took place from March 8 and 9 in the form of on-site and online supervision with 430 students from 40 high schools participating. The exam consisted of 4-6 small problems designed according to the thinking circuit, aiming to introduce candidates to a mathematical problem, belonging to one of the following contents: arithmetic, geometry, algebra, analysis, combinatorics.

In his opening speech, Associate Professor Dr. Doan Trung Cuong - Vice President of the Vietnam Mathematical Society - shared that the contest was first held in 1993 with 3 participating universities. Since then, the contest has been held annually with an increasing number of participating universities. However, this is one of the few times the contest has been held with more than 90 participating delegations.

"Mathematics is an important thinking tool to solve life's problems, the foundation of the 4.0 industrial revolution. The contest aims to improve the quality of teaching and learning mathematics, promote passion, discover and nurture mathematical talents" - Mr. Cuong said.
