Central Resource Utilization
After re-establishment, Quang Nam faced many difficulties and worries. Resources to invest in the “lifeblood” of the economy, which is transport infrastructure, were very limited. Determining that in order to develop, transport infrastructure must be one step ahead, on the basis of appropriate planning.
Many provincial inner-city roads were formed, typically Hung Vuong Street - a model route of strategic investment. The model is because of choosing an investment method that is both timely with a small amount of capital, but also long-term by leaving enough space for the median strip, and later when conditions permit, the road surface can be expanded without having to spend money on land clearance.
To invest in transport infrastructure, generations of leaders, cadres and people of the province have proposed, proposed and effectively utilized resources supported by the Central Government. A typical example is the Vo Chi Cong route, with the highlight being the Cua Dai bridge stretching across the Thu Bon River as it is now.
The Cua Dai Bridge project officially started construction in September 2010; the Cua Dai Bridge is 1,481m long, the approach road is 16.8km long. The project starts at the intersection with DT603B (Hoi An City), and ends at Binh Dao Commune (Thang Binh District).
The total investment is over VND 2,479 billion (later increased to VND 3,450 billion); of which the Central Government supports the province with 50% of the total capital, the remaining amount is for the locality to exploit land funds and other legal capital sources for investment.
On March 27, 2016, the project was officially inaugurated and put into use. This is the basis for Quang Nam to continue implementing the component projects of Road 129 (now Vo Chi Cong Road), completing the "coastal Highway 1" stretching from Hoi An and near Chu Lai Airport.
When mentioning Cua Dai Bridge, we cannot help but mention a series of large-scale bridges built across Thu Bon River (Cam Kim, Van Ly, Giao Thuy, Song Thu, Nong Son bridges...), Vu Gia River (An Binh, Tan Doi bridges...), Tam Ky River (Ban Thach, Tam Phu bridges...), Co Co River (Thon 3, Nguyen Duy Hieu, Nghia Tu bridges).
Of which, bridges such as Cam Kim, Van Ly, Giao Thuy, An Binh all received support from the central budget. Notably, Giao Thuy bridge was inaugurated on March 24, 1997 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the province's re-establishment; An Binh bridge was technically opened to traffic on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Quang Nam province (March 24, 1975 - March 24, 2025).
Quang Nam's transport infrastructure will continue to have strong changes in the coming time. Accordingly, projects using ODA loans are being and will be implemented, typically the Central Region Connectivity of Quang Nam Province; Integrated Adaptive Development of Quang Nam Province.
The project funded and invested by the Central Government is the Project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 14E. Another project that the Central Government allocated capital and assigned the province as the investor, attracting public attention, is the Project to renovate and upgrade National Highway 14D, which is in the process of implementing the procedural steps.
Community of Support
Over the past 28 years, the appearance of Quang Nam's traffic infrastructure has been transformed. The North-South National Highway 1 through the province has been expanded to 4-6 lanes by BOT (build-operate-transfer) investors; the Da Nang -Quang Ngai Expressway has been put into operation.

In particular, the business community has made important contributions to the transport infrastructure in Quang Nam. A typical example is the Chu Lai 2-level roundabout (Tam Hiep commune, Nui Thanh district) invested by Truong Hai Group (THACO).
The intersection is an impressive architectural and artistic highlight connecting the expressway, national highway, Vo Chi Cong street, down to Chu Lai seaport, and across the railway.
Construction started on March 10, 2018, the Chu Lai 2-level roundabout has a total investment of 600 billion VND. The project builds a roundabout on the 2nd floor with a diameter of 80m to solve the intersection with the railway for all directions in and out of Chu Lai - Truong Hai Mechanical and Automobile Industrial Park and Da Nang - Quang Ngai Expressway; directions from the expressway, industrial park crossing to National Highway 1, Chu Lai Port and vice versa; a roundabout below ground with a diameter of 50m on National Highway 1 for directions on National Highway 1 and into Chu Lai Port.
Construction was carried out at lightning speed, on December 16, 2018, the inauguration ceremony of the project took place. It is truly meaningful that this project was built by THACO and given to Quang Nam on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of Chu Lai Open Economic Zone.
From the 2-level roundabout to the sea, Chu Lai port was put into operation in 2012, also invested by THACO. And on the first day of the year of At Ty 2025, THACO held the inauguration ceremony of the 50,000-ton wharf, Chu Lai international port with a total investment of 1,590 billion VND.
The port is strategically located, connecting smoothly with the main routes of Quang Nam and the Central region. This is an important gateway, synchronously connecting with the whole country along the North-South axis and international inter-regional routes along the East-West economic corridor.
The port is the center of the multimodal transport model, including road - seaport - maritime transport, connecting railway and Chu Lai airport.
North-South vertical and East-West horizontal traffic routes that want to connect to regions and change the face of the countryside cannot lack the "extended arm" of the provincial road system, district roads and rural traffic.
The systematic and scientific projects on university consolidation and rural traffic consolidation have continued to mobilize resources from the people, contributing greatly to the success of the new rural construction program.
