On March 13th, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Truc, Rector of Tay Nguyen University, stated that a document had been sent to the Ministry of Construction and the People's Committee of Dak Lak province requesting permission to expand the eligibility criteria for renting dormitory space for the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy to include students from other majors and universities, in order to avoid wasting the facility.
According to Mr. Truc, the dormitory, with its two five-story buildings and 120 rooms, is equipped with bunk beds, single desks, chairs, double wardrobes, and a fire safety system, ensuring the living, studying, and accommodation needs of students are met.
Based on point a, clause 1, article 6 of Decision No. 65 dated June 10, 2009, of the Prime Minister on the policy for developing housing for students of universities, colleges, vocational schools, and professional training centers (minimum living area for student housing is 4m² /student), the school's medical dormitory can accommodate approximately 700 students.
Accordingly, it is proposed that dormitories be available not only for medical students but also for students from other departments within the university; students from nearby colleges and vocational schools; and unmarried staff members of the university.
Previously, the school flexibly allowed its staff and workers from other sectors to live in the building to avoid waste. However, this contradicted the original purpose, so these people were asked to move out.
The school will improve the quality of its accommodation services by offering single and double rooms, while still ensuring that the room rental prices remain in accordance with regulations.
"However, to date, the school has not received any response or guidance from the Ministry of Construction or the People's Committee of Dak Lak province to know how to proceed," Mr. Truc said.
