The "Vietnamese Cinema - Journey of Light" Week (Vietnamese Cinema Week in Paris), co-organized by the Vietnam Film Promotion Association (VFDA) and AVSE Global under the patronage of the Vietnamese Embassy in France, concluded with the premiere of "Red Rain," a film that set box office records in Vietnam and represented Vietnam in the Oscar competition. The enthusiastic reception and lively discussions following the screening demonstrated that Vietnamese cinema can tell its own stories while touching the hearts of international audiences, affirming the new position of Vietnamese cinema on its journey to the world stage .
Speaking at the premiere, director Dang Thai Huyen, representing the "Red Rain" film crew, emotionally stated: "What is depicted in the film about the 81 days and nights of the Quang Tri Citadel is only a very small part compared to the brutal reality of war. We are proud to have completed 'Red Rain' and brought the film a long way. But above all, we would like to express our gratitude to the audience – thank you for the applause, the tears, the empathy and encouragement from the audience, from Vietnam to Paris today."

Sociologist and director Ache Ahmat Moustapha shared after watching the film: “What impressed me most was the film's artistic value. But above all, it was the message of peace at the end – peace achieved after all the suffering. The film shows that, despite so much loss, there were people who sat down at the negotiating table, through the Geneva and Paris Agreements, to bring peace back. I was also particularly moved by the courage of the Vietnamese army. The message the film conveys is truly powerful.”
From an academic perspective, Alain-Cyril Barioz, Professor of History and Geography in Paris, commented: “The film concludes with a highly symbolic final scene, where the girl's scarf – torn between the two officers – forms the shape of the letter 'S', the shape of Vietnam. This concluding image provides the viewer with the necessary pause to reflect on the poignant story and the emotions that bind the men to the woman, and also unite a group of people.”
Taking place from December 4th to 12th, the Vietnamese Film Week in Paris attracted over 6,000 viewers from France and nearly 20 other countries. The week showcased 17 representative works of Vietnamese cinema – from classics to contemporary films, from commercial to art films and documentaries, many of which had won awards at various international festivals. Over 100 renowned French and Vietnamese actors and directors gathered for this special week. Notably, the event was supported by over 200 volunteers from around the world, demonstrating the spirit of unity and pride of the Vietnamese intellectual and expatriate community in Europe.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Ms. Pham Thi Kim Yen, Counselor at the Vietnamese Embassy in France, emphasized: “This week is not just a film screening program, but a journey – an invitation for audiences to discover and rediscover the landscapes, people, dreams, and challenges of Vietnam through the lens of filmmakers. Each film, each discussion, and each encounter with artists is an opportunity to celebrate the creativity, resilience, and soul of Vietnam.”
Representing the Organizing Committee, Professor Nguyen Duc Khuong, Executive Director of EMLV School (France) and President of AVSE Global, affirmed: The week is a testament to the potential for sustainable cooperation between Vietnam and Europe in the field of cinema, while also opening up many development opportunities for young Vietnamese talents on the international stage.
