At around 2pm on the weekend, nearly 30 male and female volunteers from the Hoi An Trash Lovers Association collected foam boxes, bottles, jars, plastic bags... on An Bang beach.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Hoa (born in 1990, Cam Chau ward), a member of Hoi An Trash Lovers Association, said that he has participated in this activity for more than 3 years. In addition, he also participates in other activities such as planting trees and patching damaged roads in the city.
“Participating in community activities, I feel very happy and proud to contribute to protecting the environment and helping traffic participants stay safe,” Mr. Hoa shared.
After more than 2 hours, volunteers collected dozens of cubic meters of various types of household waste along more than 2km of coastline. The waste was divided into two types: organic and inorganic waste. All the waste was gathered at one point and taken away by Hoi An Public Works Joint Stock Company for treatment and disposal.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Phap - a member of the association said that the association has about 50 members, when organizing voluntary activities related to the environment or patching roads, 20 - 30 members participate. The organization's expenses are all voluntarily contributed by the members of the association. In addition to picking up trash, the association also organizes many other programs such as planting trees, patching roads, and distributing vegetarian bread every week.
“Through volunteer activities, we want to spread the message of loving trash for a clean and green school, and at the same time, we want to share with the community in protecting and maintaining traffic routes, limiting unfortunate accidents,” said Mr. Phat.
