Accordingly, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Nhut in Nhon Trach commune, Dong Nai province was hospitalized with pain in the lumbar region due to kidney stones for many years. Instead of going to the hospital for treatment, Mr. Nhut drank tobacco to dissolve the stones, but the stones grew larger and the pain in the lumbar region appeared more and more. Therefore, Mr. Nhut decided to go to Dong Nai 2 Hospital for treatment.
Unlike previous patients, this time, Mr. Nhut had doctors use AI technology during the percutaneous nephrolithotomy process.
According to Dr. Phan Trong Hung, Head of the Department of Urology, Dong Nai 2 Hospital, AI technology will "mix" many images collected from different techniques such as ultrasound, CT scan or magnetic resonance into a composite image, displayed simultaneously on the ultrasound screen during the lithotripsy process for patients. From there, it helps doctors perform accurate operations in the shortest time for each case.
Dr. Hung assessed that using artificial intelligence in medical examination and treatment aims to optimize surgical steps and provide doctors with accurate predictions of possible complications. AI can help doctors determine the location, size and nature of stones to come up with the optimal lithotripsy plan. During surgery, AI can help doctors operate more accurately, minimizing risks and complications.
This is a new advanced technology applied to treat kidney stones for patients. And it is also the first time that AI technology is used in the treatment of kidney stones in Dong Nai. In the near future, the hospital will promote the use of artificial intelligence in examining and treating patients.
