• "FLAG STREETS" FROM THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE
This is one of the key activities implemented by Da Lat City to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). Not only stopping at hanging traditional flags, Da Lat is turning each residential area and each small alley into a "miniature historical road", contributing to reviving the heroic atmosphere, honoring the value of peace and national unity.
“The Flag Road” is not a new concept, but the way Da Lat implemented it on this important occasion has its own mark: From community ideas to consensus actions. Not only is there direction from the local government, but the people themselves are the main implementers - each house has a flag, each alley has a red color. All intertwined to create a very impressive highlight.
Officers and civil servants of Ward 2 (Da Lat City) responded to the implementation and took photos under the flag line to celebrate the Liberation Day of the South and National Reunification Day. |
In Ward 2, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha shared: As soon as we heard the plan to deploy the flag line, we, the people, wholeheartedly responded. Many households proactively changed the flags, and some residential groups even donated to synchronize the style and height of the flags to make them look beautiful. Many roads along the stream, or small alleys, were lit up by the red color of the flags. The atmosphere was like a real festival. We, the Vietnamese people, are truly proud when our country is about to enter the historical milestone of 50 years of total victory and unification.

In particular, some small alleys that are often hidden and rarely noticed are now "dressed in red" with compact flags, interspersed with LED lights, combined with propaganda billboards, green flowers and trees decorated along the fences, in front of the gates of houses, creating an impressive visual effect. The alley becomes lively, both exuding the beauty of peace and showing respect for the nation's history.
The spirit of national pride and love for the Vietnamese Fatherland is expressed anytime, anywhere. |
• NOT JUST DECORATION, BUT ALSO TRADITIONAL EDUCATION
The design of the “flag street” is not simply a propaganda work, but also a way to inspire and remind people of the glorious past of the nation. Each flag-hung street, each small alley decorated with billboards, posters, and slogans, is a “miniature corner of history” that people, especially the younger generation, can see and contemplate every day.

Mr. Pham Van Bay - Head of Residential Group 17 (Ward 4, Da Lat City) said: We consider flag hanging activities, especially the highlights of roads and streets with flags hanging high above, as part of traditionaleducation . There is no need for official activities, just passing through the flag-hanging alley every day, not only cadres and party members but also students and workers can feel the historical atmosphere, thereby arousing the spirit of national pride and patriotism.

Many schools in the area also organize tours of the “flag line” associated with extracurricular activities, learning about the history of April 30. The combination of living space and educational space is a creative, effective and sustainable approach that the city is aiming for.
With the advantage of being a famous tourist city, Da Lat not only focuses on internal cultural activities, but also turns each street into a tourist highlight during the country's important holidays. The "flag lines" are not only neat and solemn, but are also designed in harmony with the architectural space and typical landscape of the mountain town.
Not only simply taking check-in photos under the flags, young people also understand more about the nation's revolutionary traditions, thereby increasingly fostering a strong love for their homeland and country. |
Phan Dinh Phung, Tran Phu, Bui Thi Xuan streets... which are already crowded with tourists, are now even more brilliant with hundreds of flags hung synchronously along the streets. Many wards and communes also organize in cultural neighborhoods, integrating flag images, historical documents, and displaying old and new photos, helping visitors better understand the history and beauty of urban spaces associated with historical milestones.
A tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Long, shared: “I have been to Da Lat many times, but I have never seen the city decorated as beautifully as this time. While traveling, I also felt the atmosphere of the great national holiday, I was really moved.”
Not only the streets, agencies and offices in Da Lat city are also decorated with bright red Party and national flags. |
• SPIRITUAL SYMBOL OF PATRIOTISM
Without the need for large-scale activities, what makes the “flag street” in Da Lat special is its simplicity and intimacy. The familiar small alleys are now suddenly more sparkling and solemn, recalling the image of the early days of liberation - when everywhere was filled with flags and flowers celebrating the unification day.
From an activity that seemed to be just a formality, the "flag line" has become a spiritual symbol, expressing gratitude and national pride in every small part of life of the people of Da Lat.

In the atmosphere of the whole country joyfully celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country, the "flag road" in Da Lat is not only an image of urban decoration, but also a way for the orchid city to spread patriotism through the simplest things in every alley, roof, in every agency, unit and in the eyes, smiles and feelings of the people and tourists every time they walk under the flag roads in a peaceful space.
The flag-filled space at Chi Lang Secondary and High School - Da Lat contributes to promoting the value of peace to today's generation of students. |
In the midst of modern life, the “flag line” is like a red thread connecting the present with the past, reviving the spirit of great solidarity and pride in a resilient, indomitable nation. And perhaps, in those days when the streets were filled with flags and flowers, the people of Da Lat not only saw the mountain town more beautiful, but also felt more clearly that: Today’s freedom and peace are the achievements of many previous generations and the responsibility to preserve them belongs to all of us today and forever.
