Lang Son starts construction of inter-level boarding school for ethnic minorities in border commune

The Deputy Prime Minister and leaders of central ministries and Lang Son province performed the project groundbreaking ceremony.

Also attending were leaders of the Government Office , representatives of the Ministry of Education and Training, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Construction; leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of Lang Son province.

This is a project under the program to build 248 schools in border areas nationwide according to Notice No. 81-TB/TW dated July 18, 2025 of the Politburo and Resolution No. 298/NQ-CP of the Government. This is a project of special importance, aiming to change the face of education in border areas, completely resolve the situation of scattered schools and meet the long-standing expectations of teachers, students and local people.

Khuat Xa Primary and Secondary Boarding School is built on an area of 5 hectares. The project is large in scale, including 36 classrooms, meeting the learning needs of 1,260 students. The total investment capital of the project is 265 billion VND.

This project has been identified by Lang Son province as a key construction project. The province's goal is to ensure completion, handover and putting into use, serving the new school year 2026-2027.

Khuat Xa commune is a locality with 21 villages, including 3 border villages with a 12.5km long border with China, people's lives are still difficult. Having a new, spacious and modern school is the wish of many people, parents, students and teachers of Khuat Xa commune as well as other border communes in Lang Son province.

Excitedly sharing, teacher Hoang Thi Yen, Khuat Xa Secondary School said that at the old school, the facilities and teaching aids were still lacking. She and her colleagues really hope to have a new school so that teachers and students can have a teaching and learning environment with full functional rooms and students can have more playgrounds and more useful study rooms.

“Today I am very happy to come to the new school construction site. The new school will have many classrooms, new multi-purpose rooms, new books, a soccer field… and more friends,” Vi Tung Duong, a 4th grade student at Khuat Xa 2 Primary School, excitedly shared.

For the local government, this project brings practical benefits, directly solving difficulties for the people. Comrade Vi Van Phong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Khuat Xa commune, said that currently in the commune, there are many families who have to send their children to boarding schools far away such as in Lang Son city, or even Thai Nguyen province. Having a Khuat Xa primary and secondary boarding school right in the area will be very convenient for the children in the commune.

Sharing about the perspective of education management, comrade Hoang Quoc Tuan, Provincial Party Committee member, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province, said that the industry has made a detailed plan to allocate students to classes when the project is completed.

Instead of teaching at separate, scattered schools, the new school will help mobilize a team of teachers to teach at one location. Students will then be able to eat and stay at school, without having to travel, because some students live far from school and have difficulty traveling, and in the rainy and cold season it is very difficult, and some days when they go to school, many students are cold and chilly, which greatly affects their studies.

“The concentration of students and teachers in one place not only helps save resources and optimize staffing, but also ensures conditions for care, education, and improves the quality of concentrated and systematic teaching and learning in this difficult border area,” added the Director of the Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province.

It can be said that the project not only has educational significance but is also a symbol of the belief and will to rise of the people in the border area of Lang Son.

The People's Committee of Lang Son province affirmed that it will hand over the clean site and create all favorable conditions for the construction unit to implement on schedule, ensuring quality and safety. Departments, branches and localities in the province will closely coordinate and provide maximum support to the investor and the construction unit throughout the construction process.

The Department of Education and Training, the investor and related units determined to focus the highest level of attention on completing the project on schedule, ensuring quality, safety and efficiency.

At the same time, Lang Son province directed local authorities to closely coordinate with consulting and supervising units, creating all favorable conditions for the project to be completed as committed, put into use and welcome students in the 2026-2027 school year; fully prepare conditions in terms of staff, programs and facilities for the school to operate effectively.

On the same day, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of ethnic boarding schools in the border communes of Quoc Khanh, Kien Moc and Mau Son of Lang Son province was also held.
