Lao Cai ranked 23rd out of 63 provinces in terms of provincial competitiveness index.

According to the PCI results in 2024, Lao Cai province achieved 68.56 points, ranked 23rd out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide, up 3 places compared to 2023 (in 2023, Lao Cai achieved 67.38 points, ranked 26th out of 63 provinces and cities), in the group of 30 provinces and cities with the best governance quality in 2024.

In the Northern Midlands and Mountains region, Lao Cai's PCI ranked behind Bac Giang, Phu Tho and Lang Son provinces.

To achieve the above results, the People's Committee of Lao Cai province has issued a plan to improve the provincial competitiveness index (PCI) of Lao Cai in 2024.

In particular, directing departments, branches and localities, depending on their functions and tasks, to implement specific solutions to improve 10 component indices. In order to strongly improve the investment and business environment; create a favorable environment, enhance competitiveness and sustainable development of enterprises; maintain high-scoring component indices, improve low-ranking component indices.
