Unitel Mobile Network 15th Anniversary in Laos

NDO - On the evening of November 19, in the capital city of Vientiane, the 15th anniversary of the official mobile business of Star Telecom under the brand name Unitel, a joint venture between the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) under the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and Lao Asia Telecom under the Lao Ministry of National Defense, took place in the capital city of Vientiane. General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense of Vietnam and General Chansamone Chanyalath, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Laos, attended the ceremony.

On behalf of the Party, State, Government , Central Military Commission, Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam, General Phan Van Giang acknowledged, commended and congratulated the achievements that Unitel has achieved in the past time; affirmed that throughout its operation, Unitel has always received great attention from many generations of leaders at all levels, demonstrated through visits and work of the highest leaders of the Party, State, Government, and Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam.

On this occasion, General Phan Van Giang respectfully thanked the Government agencies, ministries, departments, branches and especially the Lao Ministry of National Defense for always paying attention to leadership, direction and creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese defense enterprises in general and the Unitel joint venture in particular to continuously develop, thereby actively contributing to the overall development of the great friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

General Phan Van Giang emphasized: “Unitel is a model for economic cooperation and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos. Unitel’s success not only affirms the bravery and intelligence of Uncle Ho’s soldiers but also contributes to enhancing Vietnam’s image and position in the international arena.”

With the premise and achievements gained in the past 15 years, General Phan Van Giang suggested that in the next phase, Unitel should further promote development, constantly innovate, pioneer in providing modern telecommunications and digital technology services, participate in all socio-economic fields in Laos, thereby continuing to contribute to improving the material and spiritual life of the people, as well as contributing to the overall development of Laos.

To achieve the above goals, General Phan Van Giang requested Unitel to focus on performing well a number of key tasks. Firstly, continue to maintain the spirit of solidarity and unity among cadres, workers and employees, both Lao and Vietnamese, pay attention to the lives of cadres, workers and employees to promote human resources, as a premise for sustainable growth and development.

Second, grasp the viewpoints and policies of comprehensive cooperation of the two Parties, two States, and two Ministries of National Defense of Vietnam and Laos to concretize them into all activities. Business activities need to be closely combined with economic diplomacy and defense diplomacy.

Unitel must be aware that in addition to its business mission, it also has the responsibility to be a bridge for cooperation between the Ministry of National Defense and the Governments of the two countries. Unitel's leadership and each Lao and Vietnamese officer and employee must represent the image of the Pathet Lao Army and the image of Uncle Ho's Army to preserve, maintain and develop the solidarity, friendship and strong relationship between the two Ministries of National Defense and the Governments of the two countries.

Third, Unitel is a company born from the army with the spirit of a soldier, "where there is difficulty and danger, there are soldiers" and must be close to the people. Therefore, as one of the largest enterprises in Laos, Unitel needs to continue implementing social security programs, contributing to the community, being a bridge to help connect and support businesses for small and new enterprises, especially Vietnamese enterprises in Laos, together building and developing Laos.

Fourth, uphold the law and gain the trust of the Lao Party, State, Government, Ministry of National Defense and people. Business must be healthy and lawful; business must be conducted with affection, responsibility and a spirit of solidarity and long-term commitment.

General Phan Van Giang affirmed that the Vietnamese and Lao Ministries of National Defense always support and create favorable conditions for Unitel to operate more effectively, maintaining its position as a symbol of sincere and effective cooperation between the two sides.

At the ceremony, authorized by the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, General Chansamone Chanyalath awarded the Lao First Class Labor Medal to Unitel; authorized by the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, General Phan Van Giang also awarded the Second Class Labor Medal to Unitel.

Also within the framework of the ceremony, Unitel officially launched 5G service business, marking a major turning point in the journey of pioneering technology and digital transformation in Laos, becoming Viettel's third market to commercialize 5G in 2024.
