Accordingly, coach Troussier's team will play their opening match of the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against the Philippines at 6:00 PM on November 16th at the Rizal Memorial Stadium (Manila, Philippines).
Five days later, the red-shirted team will host Iraq, the strongest team in Group F, at My Dinh Stadium at 7:00 PM.
This was also the Vietnamese national team's last official match of 2023.
In March 2024, Quang Hai and his teammates will return to the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with a home match against Indonesia (March 21st) and an away match against the Indonesian team five days later.
In June, the "Golden Star Warriors" will play their remaining two matches: a home game against the Philippines on June 6th and an away game against Iraq on June 11th.
According to the regulations, the top two teams in the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers will advance to the third round.
This stage involves 18 teams divided into three groups. The top two teams in each group will qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The teams ranked 3rd and 4th in each group will advance to the 4th qualifying round.
In this group, the Vietnamese team is considered to have a full capacity to qualify for the next round.
But this certainly doesn't mean that Coach Troussier and his team will let their guard down.
In related news, in October 2023, the Vietnamese national team suffered three consecutive defeats against China, Uzbekistan, and South Korea.
Nevertheless, the red-shirted team still moved up one place in the FIFA rankings to 94th in the world .
