On the afternoon of December 10th, the two athletes entered the final race with confidence after leading the morning qualifying round with a time of 2 minutes 14 seconds 565. However, at the start of the final race, the two Vietnamese rowers did not make the desired surge and temporarily allowed their opponents to overtake them.

Two athletes, Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong, won the gold medal in the women's 500m double canoe event.
Nevertheless, with their competitive spirit and strong acceleration in the final sprint, Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong quickly regained their rhythm and created a safe distance from their rivals in the latter half of the race. The pair finished first with a time of 2 minutes 06 seconds 487, thus bringing home a historic gold medal to kick off the Vietnamese Sports Delegation's participation in this year's Games.
Prior to this achievement, during the morning and early afternoon of the same day, Vietnamese teams had only won 2 silver medals and 5 bronze medals.
Sharing their thoughts after winning the gold medals, Nguyen Thi Huong and Diep Thi Huong expressed their joy and pride in bringing glory to their country. The two athletes also wished their teammates success in the upcoming events, hoping that the Vietnamese Sports Delegation will continue to achieve many high results at the 33rd SEA Games.
