In recent years, the area of rice fields where farmers grow chives has been constantly increasing. At this time, chive growers are excited because of the good harvest and good prices.
In this year's Summer-Autumn crop, Long Ho district has 60 hectares of rice fields growing chives, an increase of nearly 10 hectares compared to last year's Summer-Autumn crop. The chive growing area is concentrated in Long Phuoc and Phuoc Hau communes. Usually at the end of February, after harvesting the Winter-Spring rice crop, farmers clean the fields, make ridges and plant chives.
Currently, farmers in the district are harvesting chives, the selling price is quite high from 12,000-15,000 VND/kg. Chive growers said the average yield of the first crop of chives is about 1.5 tons/cong, the second and third crop is about 2 tons/cong.
With the current selling price and productivity, after deducting costs, chive growers earn a profit of about 12 million VND/cong for the first crop; the second and third crops earn a profit of 14 million VND/cong. With the current selling price and productivity, each hectare of chives in this Summer-Autumn crop, after 3 months of planting, farmers can earn a profit of more than 25 million VND after selling 2 crops.
