According to the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (Department of Agriculture and Environment), currently 35,190 hectares of Summer-Autumn rice are planted. Early rice harvest is 1,690 hectares, with an estimated average yield of 6.34 tons/ha, and 650 hectares are ripe and ready to be harvested. The remaining rice area is concentrated in the late tillering to flowering stages, accounting for more than 90% of the planted area. In the past week, more than 4,500 hectares of rice were infected with diseases such as blast, leaf blight, yellow leaves, whitefly, etc.
It is forecasted that in the coming time, early ripening yellow leaf disease, leaf blight, brown spot, blast disease, and grain sterility will likely increase in area and infection rate due to high humidity and heavy rain, especially in densely sown fields, excess nitrogen fertilizer, and fields cultivated with susceptible varieties that may be infected at a moderate to severe rate.
The Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection recommends that the current weather conditions of widespread heavy rain, combined with suitable rice stages (concentrated from the final tillering stage to flowering), create favorable conditions for pests to arise and cause damage. Therefore, farmers need to regularly visit the fields to carefully check the fields to have effective management measures.
To limit lodging on rice plants, it is necessary to apply a combination of measures such as: balanced fertilization, limiting excess nitrogen fertilizer, adding potassium, calcium, silicon... to increase the resistance of rice plants, making the rice stems and roots stronger. At the same time, the fields should be drained 7-10 days before harvest to make the ground hard to avoid lodging and make harvesting easier.
