The government and people of Hue city have been proactively responding, coordinating smoothly between government levels and units, and complying with regulations.

People are placed at the center of flood response work, ensuring safety of life and property is the top priority. Vietnam News Agency reporter had a quick talk with Chairman of Hue City People's Committee Phan Thien Dinh to clarify this issue.

Sir, how does the city operate the dam to ensure safety for the project and limit impacts on downstream areas?

Regarding the coordination of dam management and regulation, the Civil Defense Command as well as relevant units of the city have made early assessments of the complicated flood situation. The city has directed relevant units to strictly comply with the discipline and order of dam operations. Therefore, the coordination process between units as well as dam owners has been quite good. Right from the first days of the flood, the units have deployed reasonable regulation of the dams. Thereby, minimizing the water level on the Huong River, Bo River and other rivers, while ensuring the safety of the dam and having reserves to welcome heavy rains.

Timely rescue and support for people in floods to ensure safety of life and property is extremely important. How has the city carried out this work during the current particularly serious floods, sir?

The coordination, handling of rescue work for people as well as evacuation of people, preservation of property... between the city agencies and wards and communes were carried out well; especially the dissemination and propaganda of information to people on flood information issues, was coordinated smoothly. Therefore, during the implementation process, we realized that the coordination between the management of authorities at all levels and the understanding and cooperation of the people took place well, making it convenient for responding to floods.

Currently, the flood level on the rivers of Hue city is slowly decreasing, while heavy rains are still complicated. So, what is your assessment of this weather situation and response work?

Currently, the city has directed wards, communes and units to confirm that we have passed the most dangerous stage of this flood. However, the situation is still complicated, as on October 28, the rain was still complicated. We predict that the possibility of lowering the water level on the rivers will continue for a long time. Currently, the amount of water flowing into the reservoirs is still relatively large. The city has directed wards, communes and units to thoroughly educate people on vigilance, not to subjectively think that the water has gone down, affecting lives and property. The city is receiving rescue equipment from the central government, provinces and cities to transfer to localities; supporting food and food as well as reviewing migration to highlands; moving sick people to better places to be ready for the case that the water level may rise again. This is a bad scenario but not excluded, to proactively respond in the coming time.
