Quang Ngai requests emergency support for food, medicine and 200 billion VND to overcome floods

On October 29, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province Do Tam Hien directly inspected the flooding situation in Nghia Hanh commune - one of the localities heavily affected by prolonged heavy rain.

According to a report from the People's Committee of Nghia Hanh commune, by noon of the same day, 405 households with 1,600 people had their houses flooded. Authorities assisted in evacuating people and their property to a safe place.

At the inspection session, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the Provincial Civil Defense Command to immediately establish working groups to go to areas at risk of flash floods and deep flooding, deploy on-site response, direct on-site operations, and prepare means and human resources.

He also requested close coordination with the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Irrigation Sub-Department to closely monitor and assess the situation, promptly report, and promptly direct natural disaster prevention and response work to complicated developments of floods and rains.

To promptly support people to overcome the damage, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province has sent a document requesting the Government and the Prime Minister to consider supporting: 5,000 tons of rice, 10,000 boxes of instant noodles, 2 tons of dry food; 100 medical supplies, 5,000 kg of Chloramine B powder, 50,000 Aquatabs tablets, to organize medical examinations for people; disinfect, treat environmental pollution in flooded areas, and prevent epidemics for people.

At the same time, provide emergency support of 200 billion VND to support people's livelihoods, restore agricultural production, restore traffic in the first step, repair irrigation works, clean water for daily life, canal systems, overcome landslides... to stabilize people's lives as soon as possible.

Rescue 8 people trapped in floodwaters on Tra Khuc River

On the afternoon of October 29, Mr. Pham Xuan Sinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of An Phu Commune (Quang Ngai Province), said that the Fire Prevention and Rescue Force and the Quang Ngai Provincial Police had promptly rescued 8 people trapped in the floodwaters of the Tra Khuc River.

Before that, at around 9am, Mr. NVH (living in An Phu commune) used a boat to the mound in the middle of the river to bring his herd of 6 cows to shore, but unfortunately the flood water rose quickly and flowed strongly. At the same time, 7 other people who were also in the same area to take care of their flocks of ducks and chickens were surrounded by floodwaters.

Authorities quickly arrived and brought all eight people safely to shore. However, six cows were swept away by the floodwaters.
