Luka Modric sets great record on sad day for Croatia

Despite turning 39, Luka Modric is still playing very well in Croatia's midfield. In a desperate situation, he and his teammates played with great determination in the match against Italy.

With his goal against Italy, the Real Madrid midfielder made history by becoming the oldest player to score in the tournament. At the time of scoring against Donnarumma, Modric was 38 years and 289 days old. The previous record belonged to Austrian striker Ivica Vastic. He scored against Poland at Euro 2008 when he was 38 years and 257 days old.

This is also the record that C. Ronaldo is hunting for in this year's tournament. Currently, CR7 is ranked 6th on the list when he scored against France in Euro 2020 at the age of 36 years and 138 days. If he scores in this year's tournament, CR7 will break the record that Modric just created. Similarly, 41-year-old Portuguese center-back Pepe also has the opportunity to make history if he scores for the national team in Euro 2024.

With his excellent performance, Modric was awarded the UEFA Man of the Match award. However, he could not be happy as Croatia faced a great risk of being eliminated from the tournament.
