Buon Kuop Hydropower Company said that due to the continuous increase in flow to Buon Tua Srah Hydropower Reservoir, the reservoir will have to release spillway to maintain the reservoir water level no higher than the highest water level before the flood.
Due to the influence of storm No. 1 and the southern edge of the low pressure trough combined with the strong southwest monsoon, recently the basin of Buon Tua Srah hydroelectric reservoir has had moderate to heavy rain.
Accordingly, the flow to the lake increased and a small flood was formed at Buon Tua Srah reservoir from July 30 to August 2 with a flood peak of 732 m 3 /s. With the above hydrological developments, combined with the condition that the reservoir was not exploited, the water level of the lake increased rapidly.
Reservoir parameters at 2:00 p.m. on August 7, 2023 are as follows: reservoir water level 486,259 m, inflow to the reservoir 290 m 3 /s, machine flow 104 m 3 /s, spillway flow 26.3 m 3 /s. With the current hydrometeorological situation and reservoir exploitation situation, the company forecasts that in the coming days, the inflow to Buon Tua Srah reservoir will still be higher than the maximum machine flow (180 m 3 /s). Therefore, the reservoir water level will continue to increase and may reach the highest pre-flood water level (486.5 m) within the next few days. At that time, the reservoir must conduct spillway discharge so that the total discharge to the downstream (including machine flow and spillway discharge) is balanced with the inflow to the reservoir to ensure that the reservoir water level does not exceed the highest pre-flood water level as prescribed in the Inter-reservoir Operation Procedure.

In order to ensure safety for the project and downstream areas, comply with the Inter-reservoir Operation Procedure and the Reservoir Operation Procedure, the company has sent a document requesting the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, departments and branches to direct and disseminate to the people in the downstream area of Buon Tua Srah reservoir about the above-mentioned risks of overflow regulation so that they can know and proactively prevent them.
Thereby, carry out the harvesting of agricultural products, aquatic products and crops; do not leave farming tools in low-lying areas and flood-drainage areas along the river. When the reservoirs overflow or when floods occur, sectors and localities need to regularly coordinate and exchange information with the company to have response measures to reduce damage.
Buon Kuop Hydropower Company regularly monitors weather developments in the basin. When regulating the spillway of Buon Tua Srah reservoir, it will implement the information and notification regime according to regulations.
