Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan was the last defender to leave, joining Galatasaray on a free transfer.

Despite being favored by Pep Guardiola, the German star followed in the footsteps of center-back Manuel Akanji and goalkeeper Ederson in their search for a new club.

Man City are undertaking a thorough overhaul, terminating Gundogan's contract early to free up wage bill and make room for a new squad.

Ilkay Gundogan was reportedly Pep Guardiola's first signing at Man City in the summer of 2016. He spent seven years with the club before joining Barcelona.

Gundogan returned to the club in August 2024 and played 33 Premier League games last season. However, his form declined at the same time that Manchester City weakened.

"Manchester City will always hold a special place in my heart. I'm sure the club will achieve even more success in the future. From Turkey, I will always be following and supporting the Citizens," Gundogan expressed.

Goalkeeper Ederson could face Gundogan this season, after his £11 million move to Fenerbahce.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper has fallen out of favor since they brought James Trafford on board. With the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Ederson's departure was predictable.

Meanwhile, Manuel Akanji joined Inter Milan on a one-season loan deal with an option to buy for £13 million.

At 30 years old, the Swiss center-back can make the most of his experience in Serie A – a league that isn't as physically demanding and fast-paced as the Premier League.
