"I am very happy after completing the first 5,000m women's race at the 33rd SEA Games. I am very happy to have successfully defended my gold medal. I also hope to maintain a good spirit and physical condition to be ready to compete in the next races," Nguyen Thi Oanh shared her feelings after winning the gold medal in the 5,000m event on December 13th.

In her strongest event, as expected, Nguyen Thi Oanh quickly pulled ahead. The athlete born in 1995, along with her teammate Le Thi Tuyet, completely outclassed their competitors. Even halfway through the race, Oanh and Tuyet had already left many of the runners behind by a full lap.

As the race entered its final laps, Nguyen Thi Oanh unexpectedly "ceded" the lead to Le Thi Tuyet. But in the final lap, the "golden girl" of Vietnamese sports launched a sprint to the finish line first, winning the gold medal with a time of 16 minutes and 27.14 seconds. Le Thi Tuyet finished second, winning the silver medal.

"I think every athlete has their own goals and their own efforts in each event or competition. I'm the same; I always try my best in every race and hope luck continues to smile upon me. Let's all look forward to and cheer me on in the upcoming events," the Vietnamese athletics star replied when asked about equaling the record of her senior teammate Nguyen Thi Huyen at the SEA Games .
